Map sharing without Steam Workshop?
So, I was wondering, since Dark Quest 2 was recently released on GOG as well, and GOG does not support Steam Workshop, how would buyers of the game on GOG be able to play and share maps?

Would there be any way for them to somehow play the maps released on Steam Workshop regardless? Would owners of the game on Steam be able to play maps that GOG users created? If so, how? Are the maps stored as files on our harddisk somewhere? If so, where?

(And as an aside, a somewhat related question to that: If you upload a map and then lose your work on it due to a harddisk crash or whatever, but the map is still online or downloaded by other players, would you still be able to edit your map if you download it again, or is a finished map not accessible for editing anymore and you could only do it with your lost map editor data?)

But I don't see any possibility as a GoG user to upload your created map or to play it yourself unless you use the .xml via Steam or send your file to someone who would have to upload it...

If you are in the game (GoG version) and you visit the Elder you have the button for Custom Maps but you get the message "You have not downloaded any maps yet. You can find new maps in the steam workshop" but the button to open the workshop does not work.

Unfortunately, both the GoG players and those who play DQ2 on the smartphone have no access to the workshop. They cannot create maps and are therefore only limited to the official maps.

If you have uploaded a map and lose your data on the computer, you will not be able to download the data from the workshop. So you cannot edit a map, because you would have to load it in the editor.
If I remember correctly, only the developer has the possibility to download the data of uploaded maps. In such a case it might help to write a mail to the developer.

Backups are always helpful ;)

Are you sure about that? GOG support said you can save the maps as html files in your Documents folder and then share the files with other players by e-mail or whatever (which is very roundabout and not really the same, but still).

Since the editor is a Steamworks related thing and GoG does not support this, I don't see how you could have access to custom maps.

GoG has changed the description on the shop page of Dark Quest 2 so that the editor is not mentioned anymore, as it was at the time of the GoG release.

Did the GoG support tell you that the editor is available in their version?

Yeah, I told them about that line in the game description that says you can create map with Steamworks, which is very obviously not the case with GOG, so I asked them for clarification whether map creating and sharing works in the GOG version, too, and said that this info should be on the game page. Didn't expect them to just delete the line about custom maps completely though.

In the mail, they wrote:
"Our version does not support Steamworks.
You can simply create a map in-game, save it and then share map file with other users(by giving them map file) so they can try it on their computers."
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
