These are some examples (Consider all decks unlimited, because i play only unlimited):
Deus ex machina-Acceleratium artifact.
Puppet-destruction/Maisha.
Silvia aggro.
Dissacrated orb.
There are more, but i don't remember well, anyway you can find deck build on internet.
It can take a bit to get used to. Study popular decks, watch youtubers play the portal subtype you like, and keep at it! You'll get the hang of it in time!
In unlimited it's supposed to be number 1,but there are counters there as well.
:v
As for rotation viability, a lot of people seem to underestimate it. Maisha is still a spectacular wincon, and with Alpha Core can go off as early as turn 8. All of the archetypes listed above are decently viable! Artifact still has crazy combos, Desecration is oppressive when it goes off, Lish has few counters, even Silva Orchid is functional. I've even had some success playing around with a jank artifact machina deck and a Shin evo slime deck.
The craft is my favorite to tinker with on rotation right now, and my second favorite to play behind rune~
if you want to play portal, play it in unlimited.
