Downloading data....forever.
Okay this might be my fault for being so slow. I downloaded and installed Shadowverse a long time ago but only just now got around to starting it up. However, now that I have, it's been stuck in the "downloading data" screen for ages. I've been here for about 10 minutes now and it's only at 2%, so what gives? My connection is usually good enough to get me a few megabytes per second on most services, so am I just downloading so many patches that I'm installing enough data to cover the entire game three times over or something?

Steam lets you do periodic updates to game files without going into the game, most of my library does it all the time. So why do I need to go through the in-game downloader? Would I be better off uninstalling the game and making a new installation from scratch? because I do not feel like spending nearly 8 and a half hours staring at 7 short character bios.

Reinstalling did not help. 5 minutes for about 1%. Admittedly a smaller sample size there, but seriously, not only is it going slow as heck, but I can't even see how much it's trying to download or how fast I'm going. Is this a tiny update and I'm just doing a kilobyte per second or something?

Well, thankfully the download picked up the pace and now, 1 hour after I originally wanted to play this game, I am ready to start, but I would like to once again ask why steam couldn't have handled this for me? What's the point of a super quick install process when I'm sitting around browsing an online shop and then making me wait on a download screen when I am actually ready to play?

PS: I wrote this when the bar was about to reach 100%, but for some reason even after it reached that number, the screen decided to sit around for another 15 minutes. At least I should be able to get in now.

the game is checking the data first then downloading, even if it says its downloading

Well, assuming that's a check of local files, that potentially explains why steam didn't take care of it, but it still wouldn't explain why it took many times longer than the download of the actual game itself.

because basically SV is mobile game ported to PC

Again, that doesn't answer the question.
1) mobile games usually update through shops like the play store, just like what I was talking about with Steam. I would be complaining about it there too.
2) The enhanced power of a computer should make things go faster than on mobile, so I would hate to see how long it takes on a phone.
3) I fail to see how any of that excuses mid-game download times longer than the download and installation of the entire raw game.

you do realize that download throught playstore is upgrading the game ver not the data, steam also do that
it doesnt matter how powerful the computer if the game is not optimized, look at ported games reviews on steam,so much ppl complaining the game cant run properly even they have powerful PC
because you actually run 2 things :running the game & installing , not just installing the game

My question is why. Why not download the data when doing an update through whatever distribution platform you're running on? Maybe for mobile games there's data provider problems that I don't want to get into right now, but on a PC, I can't think of a single reason for it. When I download early access games on Steam, I just get updates automatically and don't need to sit around in game for the system to figure out what is going on.

Fine, ports can be slower, but seriously, it took way longer than the initial download time just to check the version and (presumably) download patches. The game itself plays just fine. Perhaps my second point wasn't as valid, but there's still a problem.

Your last statement also doesn't really make much sense. Anyway, saying "It's a mobile game port" does not suddenly excuse incredibly bad design. "Explain," maybe, but not "excuse."
