And my advise for new player : try another card game.
Ignore some of the salty players who may post on here, Shadowverse is a good game.
A few quick tips, NEVER buy standard packs, you get those as rewards from your daily and quests, so get standard cards that way.
Tempest / Wonderlands expansion are the 2 best. So open 2 of those packs for every 1 of the other 2 expansions, at least until you have 3'ish of all Tempest / Wonderland bronze / silver cards. Then you can ease off and just buy 1 at a time or craft amy gold / legendary cards you didn't get that you want.
Because there is no greater joy than losing a match simply because the game decided that you have to go 2nd, right? See for yourself, most decks on ladder right now aim to kill you before turn 6, the only time they interact with you is to kill your unica or sybil.
Now me and many people here have made our point why this game is bad at this current state. Why don't you tell us why this game is good atm? Beside the f2p friendly (which i don't think is true anymore after so many expansions).

Learn to build good decks
etc...
This games 10x better then Heathstone for example, there you basically have 1 top tier deck / class Druid. Shadowverse has a meta deck for each class, some classes have several and also neutral craft decks.
Look at some of the hours played, by those knocking the game, like over 1, 000+ hrs played, thats how bad they think the game is...they invested over 1,000 hrs of there life. Just salty players who have burned themselves out. Let steam discussion put you off playing a game and you may as well uninstall steam, cause you won't play anything.
Its really wierd, its like I have enjoyed this game for 1,000's of hours now I am going to dedicate my life to stopping anyone else from playing it by saying how bad it is....makes no sense!
the game is bad right now, and there are better card games out there? is it wrong to advice him to find a better one and avoid the frustration, again it's my thought about this game. I keep doing my daily, simply because i have pretty much all the card and it feel like a waste to throw them away, that it.
And again, at least i don't have to hide my profile to prove my point, unlike some certain player.
Edit: yes, we have played for a long period of time to see that this game is currently in a downfall.
-wait new expansion
-wait someone make a deck with highest winrate
-do re-roll to make that deck
if u want to enjoy the game casually
-be creative and create ur own deck
as a player with 250h+ i can tell that the latest expansion is killing the game
good luck holding out till next expac start. Even if you aim to netdeck new flavor of the month it's going to require multiple cards from old packs. The longer you wait the steeper the cost for building increase, that's true for all card game btw.
