Anyways, regarding Aegis, I feel that it may be a giant pain in the ass, It's still possible to win with control, besides, some decks do beat other decks, you could just be unlucky, I havent even SEEN an aegis deck in my past 30 games because all I've seen is midrange sword and and aggro blood. Then again i'm B1 so what do I know.
As a Haven main, I've dealt with AND played Aegis, so I do know it's strengths and weaknesses. A massive counter to aegis could be Roland, or Kaguya. Though if your looking for non stat changing a big counter would be ramp dragon for me, because it does alot of damage and has big minions that i'm forced to trade into instead of going face. Not to mention, if you really unlucky and draw Aegis early, its a dead card until turn 9, which is pretty awful.
I can sympathise with you, because I also used to hate Aegis with a burning passion, but I've just adjusted and can deal with it these days. Aegis for example, gets stomped by Silver Bolts deck, Jungle wardens and Stuff. Durandal again counters it. Shadow can out value with a bigger board, after all Aegis can only attack one follower, and deaths breath is a thing. Rune Dshift reks it, hell, earth rite sun dancer can deal with it because you can make minions BIGGER than aegis. Ramp and Disco dragons a pain for aegis because Ourobouros value is insane, and Genisis Dragon and Zeus shuts im down. Haven itself has Kaguya and wards and heals. And Bloodcraft's Maelstron Serpent makes me wanna concede.
On regards on F2P, I've never really had that problem, mainly because of how generous the devs are. If you remember they literlaly gave 9 packs for free about a couple days ago. also crafting legendaries and rares are ok, then again, I literally disenchanted every blood and shadow card i had because I wanted to focus on the rest of the classes.
Your thoughts?
Most of the counters you cite are only partial : for exemple, Roland slows Aegis, it does not counter it like Odin counters Seraph. Same with Kaguya, ok, it has only one attack, but it's one free damage each turn, and even if you run 3 Kagyua, it's unlikely you'll have enough evo points to counter all of the opponent's Aegis. And I'm nitpicking, but Sun Dancer Earth Rite make big minions...but Haven really does not care with Themis decree and Tribunal of Good and Evil. As for Genesis and Zeus shutting Aegis down, I don't really see it, just remove them or heal (two strengths of Haven), and you win. And I'm not even bringing Test of Strength in the equation.
Imho, the problem with Aegis is that it's just too damn big, if you're not already winning, then you've lost on the spot, and if you're winning, you can still loose. Control decks have to adapt to Aegis with the addition of combo, not value, which change their archetype to combo, mostly, whereas Aegis deck only have to accomodate for aggro and mid-range...which they already did, being control decks. It's not a card you build around, it's a card that just makes you win some match-ups just by itself, and that is questionable design.
Edit : if going F2P, do not climb the ladder, it's that simple.
i have 3 full decks and one is ramp dragon (70-80k vials) and all i ever paid was 5€ for the alternative Forte version
i'm always liquifying all of my non dragon/shadow/forest cards and i have 3 fully functioning decks and 20k liquids to spare without ever buying packs for real money
With expansions coming out every 3 months, and 10 free packs each time they do come out it's pretty easy to save up that much.
