"Less than 512mb of video memory"
Hi,

When I start Wings of Prey, a pop up appears on my screen and says "Less than 512mb of video memory. Medium texture quality forced." But I want to play in high quality! I have an Asus g750 with Intel Core i7 and also a GeForce GTX 880m graphics card with 4gb ! How can I play in high quality???

I already fixed the nvidia control panel to force the game to run using the nvidia gpu but apparently t the launcher is using the intel gpu.

I found a way to fix this. If you run the game, let it load, exit the game and you will find a config file in /Documents/My Games/Wings of Prey/ called config.blk, open it with notepad, and find the line that reads

512mboughttobeenoughforanybody:b=no and change it to
512mboughttobeenoughforanybody:b=yes

Save the file, run the game again and choose detail level needed.

I could be wrong but I believe it's both a play on words and a hat tip / nod of the head to Bill Gates who is often misquoted as saying "'640K of memory should be enough for anybody." which is in reference to the amount of computer memory that people would need. In case there are some children in here 640k (640,000b [bytes]) use to be a crap ton of memory back in the day. Now, it is common to have anywhere from 2Gb - 32Gb, and servers have much much more. My PC has 14Gb (1.4e+10b or 1,400,00,00,000b [bytes]).

But yeah, Bill never said that and I don't know how it was attached to his name. Trolls, Steve Jobs, who knows... Bill would have to have been high as a kite or sleeping if he ever said that as anybody that works with PC's knows about moor's law and how the rate at which memory and storage increases at a given rate, even though there is speculation or evidence that even that will not hold true (but that's a story for another day kids - youtube: 'moor's law' and look for something on it failing etc.)

ANSWER: "I've said some stupid things and some wrong things, but not that. No one involved in computers would ever say that a certain amount of memory is enough for all time."

Geforce 960m with 12 gigabyes and i get this msg. Probably using integrated graphics even though I set global use geforce in the nvidia settings. Though even the integrated graphics has 8 gigabytes so maybe it just can't properly read the newer graphics cards.

I just bought this game on GOG because I loved it on the Xbox 360, but I'm getting the same issue, any known fix?

Anyone reading this years later lol. What fixed this for me was the above config fix along with switching textures from ultra high to very high (or anything other than ultra high).
