pretty much free, but with a serious component stripped from the game, no multiplayer nor coop, reminds me of Mercenaries 2: world in flames, it is still being sold and quite cheap, but their servers have been shut down and now you just have the single player component, that made me stop playing the game interely, the whole fun in these games is the coop
Though I don't own the steam version, I would assume the adware portion was replaced by Steam's less intrusive DRM.
Correction - It was the ORIGINAL game that was ad-ware supported, not Ten Hammers
Controller works fine (at least, the 360 controller). You just need to go to options to choose the method of control and then to choose "controller". Once you choose it, the second analog stick will work. Then, you might have to remap some axis/buttons in game but it's possible to use a controller for people who really wants to.
Lan also work fine but of course, only in lan mode. For people who have two computers, load your team account on both, put them in offline mode (this way, you'll only need one copy of the game) and it'll connect just fine.
I guess it can be played online with some tools than emulate a internet multiplayer through lan mode.
Only problem you will have is that the controller mapping isn't represented by AXYB, LB/RB, etc. Instead, those buttons are represented by numbers and you have to figure out which numbers represent which buttons but there's a community guide that explains which is which.
You also have to run it in compatibility mode with XP or your profiles will break on exiting the game and you'll have to start over from the beginning.
