Was the Thrash chapter added later, after the main release?
And if so how long after? Just curious as if it feels like an add-on or DLC.

No. The base game story included everything up until the battle with rixal. the original games challenges and trials allowed you to play as either mina or thrash. With a later patch to the game allowing you to choose Ziggy.
