UNIST Tier List (updated for ver. 3.30)

For those of you who prefer looking at it in text form rather than chart form:

S : Seth > Wagner, Phonon, Vatista
A: Carmine, Byakuya, Merkava > Akatsuki, Hyde, Linne, Orie, Eltnum > Nanase
B : Waldstein, Gordeau, Yuzuriha > Hilda, Chaos > Mika
Enkidu : Enkidu

Most of the changes from the previous tier list reflect the amount of time we've had to see how the new meta actually looks (in other words, new intel on strengths of the newer characters, their MUs, and how they affect the rest of the cast).

Note that commas depict even strength within a tier, and > reflect higher strength on its left side.

UNIST is actually very balanced as it stands (save Enkidu), so this tier list really shouldn't matter, but I know newer players love them. Discuss.

If you're looking at this post because you found it on a Google search or wherever, please disregard it. Not only were there a lot of flaws in my line of thinking, but also I do not want to paint the picture that tier lists matter for this game, because they really don't.

Few questions: I know Wagner is good but what makes her as good as top 5 in the game? Not trying be contrary just genuinely curious. Also why is Nanase below the other A tier characters? Also what would you say the gap is between S tier and A tier characters?

Wagner is widely considered top 5 in JP tier lists. But her gameplay substantiates that. Great buttons all around, has one of the best pressure offenses in the game, incredible corner carry and damage, very low risk pick in most matchups, has a DP and a super armour move, she is neither strong nor weak in any facet (which still makes her better than most of the cast since most everyone else has a few weaknesses).

As for Nanase, her offense is relatively easy to not only defend, but also to disrespect (mash out of, reversal, etc.). Her DPs are bad, her neutral is bad. Other than that she is a solid character with combos that are on the easy side but technology (tech) that is on the harder side (in terms of execution).

There is not much of a gap between any tier. UNIELst is a very balanced game, so all members of each tier are just as viable as the ones above them and the ones below them. The only disparity lies in each characters' matchup ratings.

Gotdayum, the characters I want to play - Seth, Phonon, and Wagner - are all top tier lol.

Coincidentally, I used to play Akatzuki and Vatista in UNIEL, but dont want to play either anymore. Looks like they're safe to fall back on tho!

This tier list is... something. It's generally accurate, but tier lists don't matter much in UNIST outside of top and bottom. Top two is generally considered equal between Vat and Seth while other top tiers are Phonon and Wagner. Enkidu is the worst character in the game, but he's not bad by a long shot. He's a struggle sure, but he functions as intended. Every character in this game *is* competitively viable. You just have to put in the work.

I agree, and I have developed newer opinions on the metagame since having posted this (note that this list was from a while ago).

Also it is indeed a fact that some characters require more work for the same or even less of a reward...I challenge you to ponder whether that itself is the defining factor between high/low tier. In addition I have seen more people with Phonon at top 2 as opposed to Vatista, but again it doesn't really matter (I also happen to think Wagner's strengths can be exaggerated at times but that also doesn't mean she is bad at all, she is still very, very good).

EDIT clearer wording and accuracy. I am aware of what I said above concerning Wagner, just clarifying my personal opinion of observation.
