At the time, the only thing I wasn't expecting was the mechanics to favor Street Fighter 2 over your typical anime air-dasher games.
BTW.. Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus might be what you, are looking for in anime fighting game.
Senran Kagura is a Beat Them Up not a Fighting Game like this one.
Also, I still don't know what the animation style of this game is. :/
iirc it's not 3D, it uses (2D) sprites made of pre-rendered 3D models; so, in terms of graphic style, it's like King of Fighters XIII (sprites made from 3D models), rather than for example Guilty Gear Xrd Sign (3D models which are made to look like anime characters)
gameplay-wise, all of these games (Koihime Enbu, King of Fighters XIII, Guilty Gear Xrd Sign) are 2D; since GGXrd is the only of these 3 games to use 3D graphics during gameplay, it's the only of these 3 games which can be "labeled" as 2.5D (while 3D games which feature movement in the Z-axis such as Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Dead or Alive, Soul Calibur, etc, are known as 3D games)
personally, I don't consider the graphic style to be important. As long as the game is fun to play, being 2D, 2.5D or 3D isn't an issue.
