Full Spectrum Warrior

Where is the Kickstarter...
... for a proper sequel to this?
Is this gameplay so niche that nobody even tries to get something going?
Does somebody know a good recent substitute?

FSW: Ten Hammers is a sequel. Had you seen that one yet? Or when you typed 'proper' did you imply that Ten Hammers isn't?

I'm implying that i would like to see a successor in spirit that is so recent that it could have been on kickstarter. Or in other words 2010 and/or later. Sure, gameplay > grafics. But I'd like to see something up to the standarts of 2013/2014 with decend controller support up to date grafics and some new mechanics and comfort features.
Or in short: A proper sequel.

I'd gladly put money into a kickstarter for a continuation of this franchise. I loved the original game (Ten Hammers not so much; the control scheme felt much clunkier and it felt as if they were adding features simply for the sake of adding features rather than the game really needing 'em).

Let's see... what would I want in FSW 2014 Ed.?

- The core gameplay of the original was solid so they shouldn't mess with that too much

- Updated graphics (although the original holds up fairly well)

- Updated sound engine (no more crackling!) and more variety in the commands (if I hear "Alpha Squad, listen up... move!" one more time, I may cry!)

- Slightly less scripted enemies, for increased replayability. They shouldn't always show up in exactly the same place every game.

- More civilians to add more variety and uncertainty to the game

- larger levels with more than one route

Things I don't need in a sequel
- special moves for my troops. I don't need to "breach and clear" or rapple down ropes or anything like that. I didn't even like the "split the fireteam" thing from Ten Hammers. Let me focus on the strategy, not the action

- more variety in guns. The standard weapon load-out is enough for me.

- superhuman soldiers who take on an entire army. Their vulnerability is what made the game so intense.

- tanks, vehicles, helicopters or mounted gun sections. This is an infantry game all about movement and cover.

Basically, just remake the original game with better tech and new levels. Done. Take my money.

I just tried the demo as I was interested in buying it (yay steam sale) but I had the crackling too. I thought it was because there are no win7 drivers for my sound card but this is the only game with problems. Is it a common thing?

I played the Free version shortly after it was released years ago, loved the game. Just bought the pack on Steam, I'd love to see the franchise be brought back from the dead.

Studio that designed it went belly up when THQ died

Had both titles on the ps2 a few years back, absolutely loved them. Unlike some on here, I actually prefered the control settings on Ten Hammers (personal choice I suppose). When I found these on steam, I jumped at them & have since played them both to death all over again. So much better than the usual run around shooting anything that moves.

Would be fantastic if someone were to come up with a similar style strategy based game, but won't hold my breath.............

Nordic Games bought this franchise though so maybe they'll revive it.

Actually the developer Pandemic Studios was owned by EA, EA closed the studio down in 2009. As far as I know EA still owns the IP, THQ was the just publisher for the first two games. With THQ going under it auctioned off the IP for the first two games only as I know it. But EA still owns the actual Full Spectrum Warrior IP. As far as Nordic I believe they only have rights to sell the first two games over seas. I used to work at Pandemic Studios, we just finished The Saboteur. We released the game then we all got fired just before Thanksgiving all 200+ employees, ceo, everyone all on the same day. We didnt know till we saw a post on Kotaku that it we were rumored to closed that emails ran rampant around the office. Then next day we where done, sorry for my rant. Nice to see people who still love our games.

Aww, that's pretty awful. Probably had a lot to do with the Mercenaries 2 fiasco. Was a good game, had lots of potential, but obviously EA rushed it out the door like dummies.

Ha I worked on Mercs 2 too also :-) , yes it was rushed. But It had a very long dev cycle, It was suposed to have a lot more going for it then whats in it now. It had more story elements, characters, underwater levels, real time changing weather effects, custom vechicle garage, lots of stuff. But constant bugs and tech problems with the engine, we couldn't get stuff to work in the time frame EA gave us. The dev cycle was getting longer and longer so yes EA pushed it out the door. It probably was the nail in the coffin, It got poor reviews and the metacritic score was lower then what EA wanted. The Saboteur was a much better game IMO that didnt have nearly as much problems as Mercs 2 did but Mercs 2 did enough damage that left a bad taste. The Sabotuer didnt get the Metacritic scrore Pandemic and EA was hoping for on release. Then half a month later Pandemic was DOA. EA still owns all of Pandemic IP's as far I know, EA owns a a lot of game IPs it doesn't use. So we may never see a true sequel to the game but yes a indie spirtual sequel to game would be really cool IMO.
