video distorted
I am playing a video that is _LR_180 and plays correctly in skybox, but in whirligig, the image is distorted. I set it to fisheye, and for depth, I choose the two boxes side by side. However, straight objects like doorways are very curved. Also things at the top and bottom are streched horizontally. I gaveup on whirilgig awhile back because the videos were unwatchable.

What am I doing wrong?

don't use fisheye but barrel with FOV 180 and depth "Side by Side" (picture with two square at the bottom of the menu)

This works thank you. I don't really understand it though. Even the iray fisheye lens has to use barrel, instead of fisheye.

Is there a way to use codes like _LR or _180 to tell whirligig how to display the video or image?

Not sure about that, but yeah, sometimes you have to go from barrel to fisheye.

On the other hand, if you have barrel selected, and should be doing fisheye, then the image will be diamond-shaped, which is weird too.

@heinzerbrew The option for Barrel in Whirligig actually refers to equirectangular which is now the most common standard for 360 degree video. When I started making Whirligig an abbreviation of this was Barrel. As it's a smaller word and fitted into the button box easier I went for that :)

Regarding using codes. Yes there are. You can use all the standard codes but you have to turn on Auto detect depth in the settings/projection/depth. In truth this shouldn't be here now as it auto detects a lot of other things as well. I'll look at changing that in the future and also creating a sheet that describes the detection that you can use as well.

Do you have another barrel projection you could add? I see on some videos the area near the top and bottom edge is very squished. I reported this on the forum but I don't think it's been picked up.

You can squash and cut the top and bottom of the equirectangular playback with the warp settings. However if that isn't right I can make a custom format for the video if there is more info and an example of it :)

I've never seen the warp settings - let me try, thanks!

Did you try "Fisheye mode" for these videos ?

yes, this is a different kind of issue, the distortion i am talking about is just in the vertical direction - the image near top and bottom borders is squashed in the vertical directoin.

which is the "warp" setting? I can't find it in the UI. Thanks

Under the settings/projection when selecting the barrel there are two sliders at the bottom which you can adjust to squash and reduce the vertical degrees. It might help. Other than that send me some examples and I'll make a custom format for it :)

that's not it.

it's not all squashed in the same way.

the stuff that is vertically in the middle is not squashed. the closer you go to the top or bottom border, the more squashed the image is. it's most squashed right by the border.
