It's crazy that this long after Quest launch there is still no media player available that lets the user control the size and distance to the virtual screen. I get that vergence-accomodation conflict is a thing and people are trying to keep the screen several meters away, but to have every media player locked to "big" screen sizes a fixed distance away from the user and to not even have an option for a "small" close-up screen is nuts.
The biggest problem I've got for release though is that I can't get a way to play back videos from an external drive. The videos you are playing have to be on the Quest or Go's internal memory.
The competitors have this and I didn't want to release something that didn't, so I got scared and stopped working on it.
What do you think, is the absence of playback outside of the internal memory a deal breaker?
In one sense if the only way to get to whirligig currently on Quest is to connect to a PC and use Virtual Desktop or Oculus Link, from that standpoint having to connect to the PC to load files isn't any additional burden on the user compared to the status quo.
It's a great time to release it given the influx of new users looking for a good vr player, I had a quick look today and to be honest I think there's only really 2, whirligig imo is better than both so I would love to spend some money on your app again Phil :)
I don't really care about remote playback.
