Planet Zoo 2 | Update 1.0.8

4:31am

Hayo Zookeepers!

Update 1.0.8 is arriving at 14:00 GMT today (29th October 2026).

Under Investigation

Following the distribution of the update, our team will be continuing to monitor for any raised issues.

You can see our latest high priority targets via the Under Investigation[www.planetzoogame.com] article, which will regularly update as we identify areas for additional support. Please note that we anticipate the next update to the Under Investigation article to go live early next week (week commencing 2nd November), following this weekend's monitoring. News of our next update will then be added to that article.

The negative reviews scare me from purchasing this game right now.

I would like to purchase this awesome looking game. However the reviews to date makes it hard to pull the trigger. I wonder how many others are holding off from purchasing the game. To buy or not to buy at this point is the question or wait until it gets fixed....

Planet Zoo 2 | Update 1.0.7

Oct 23

Hayo Zookeepers.

Earlier today we launched Update 1.0.6, which contains a wealth of fantastic fixes addressing a number of high-priority issues. You can find the full list of fixes here[www.planetzoogame.com], and we have already updated our Under Investigation[www.planetzoogame.com] article to highlight our next planned update. Our team are continuing to work on verifying your reports and implementing fixes, and we will issue regular updates and communicate our areas of focus. Thank you for your ongoing support, everyone at Frontier is working hard on ensuring all our Zookeepers can experience our game at its best.

Unfortunately, following deployment of the update today (23rd October), we received several reports identifying issues when trying to resume a franchise save, preventing full use of the main menu, and creating concern that players’ saved games were lost. If you ran into these issues, please be aware that your saved games have not been lost. Do not delete your saves folder.

For anyone who has installed Update 1.0.6, but is unable to download Hotfix 1.0.7, you can navigate around the issue with the following workaround:

1) Restart the game

2) Enter your chosen mode via the mode's button in the main menu. Do not use the ‘Resume’ button.

Hotfix 1.0.7 addresses these issues. The update is available now on Steam

If you remain unable to access Franchise Mode servers, please ensure you are not running a VPN.

We apologise for the concern which this has caused and thank you for your patience as we work to improve Planet Zoo 2 for all Zookeepers. Once we have worked to address these high-priority fixes, we’ll be sharing news on what future content players can expect, however right now our focus is on tackling those priority concerns.

PATCH NOTES

Fixed an issue whereby selecting the 'Resume' option for a franchise save would display a connection error and subsequently stop the player from loading into any game mode.

Hayo Zookeepers!

Ahead of the weekend, Hotfix 1.0.6 is arriving on all platforms at 11:00 BST today (23rd October 2026).

Under Investigation

Following the distribution of the hotfix, our team will be continuing to monitor for any raised issues.

You can see our high priority targets via the Under Investigation[www.planetzoogame.com] article, which will regularly update as we identify areas for additional support. Please note that we anticipate the next update to that article to go live early next week (week commencing 26th October), following this weekend's monitoring. News of our next update will then be added to that article.

Animals sometimes erroneously escape from habitats during certain behaviours.
Further enhancements to core creative toolset.

Please note: This is not a full list of everything the development team are working on.

Franchise Mode

As a reminder, we are seeing two core areas which have been limiting player access following our work to strengthen Franchise servers throughout the last week. If you are continuing to experience issues connecting to our servers, please check the following:

Profanity Filter - Some usernames have been impacted by our profanity filter due to a banned word being present in the middle of a username, which can also display a server connection error. Yesterday, all affected users were emailed to make them aware, please check for emails from: http://mailto:noreply@mailer.frontier.co.uk
VPN Usage - Please note that if you are using a VPN whilst playing Planet Zoo 2, particularly Franchise Mode, this may lead to connectivity issues.

Key Changes

We will be resetting any player zoo that has negative cash back to $0 as part of the resolution to the habitat roof repairs sometimes costing excessive amounts of cash, which would see rapidly increasing losses in player finances
Balancing pass conducted on animal accreditation tier requirements targeting animals that did not feel like their unlock level matched how common or easy to keep they are. This particularly targets easy to keep exhibits and fish as well as bringing some more variety into the first tier of accreditation.
We've lowered the Zoo and Wildlife Reserve requirements for Accreditation tier unlocks to make for a smoother progression.

CONS:
- Hugely imbalanced species roster fails to reasonably represent Australia, North America, South America, or the Atlantic Ocean, which is not just annoying but silly for a series entitled Planet (and when imbalanced representation of regions was a longtime complaint for the first game, so they were aware of it). If this is a dealbreaker for you, wait until a few DLC are released to expand the roster. But also, it shouldn't have required DLC to balance.
- If you owned all the DLC for the first game, it feels bad to lose so many species we had. PZ1 had 210; PZ2 has 136. A disproportionate amount of these (38) are fish species. Some are new birds, and there are a couple other new species. It is generally lacking in arctic species, domestics, and small mammals, and does not have zoo staples like cheetah, peafowl, kangaroo, capybara, polar bear, or monkeys (unless you buy the deluxe DLC, then you get one). Overall, by my count 125 species from the complete first game have been cut. This sense of loss will also require waiting for DLC and (hopefully) updates to mitigate.
- Some core and popular mechanics from the first game have been cut, like exhibit auto-management and petting zoos. These will likely return in future updates.
- Requires a very powerful PC to run well, not just due to graphics but CPU load for the simulation. Recommend playing on Deck or GeForceNOW if your rig isn't top tier (I prefer the latter because I find it pretty much impossible to build properly with a controller, but ymmv).

PROS:
- Gorgeous graphics with a new lighting system, water physics, moving plants, and remodeled animals
- Pleasant focus music, realistic animal sounds, ambience, and fully voice-acted campaign mode
- Option to play more management-heavy modes (franchise and career campaign) or sandbox building
- Online animal trading and community challenges in franchise mode
- Built-in workshop for players to share their blueprints, which is very beneficial for those who don't excel at the building aspect
- Massive QoL improvements over the first game, to the point you won't want to go back if you have both (most notably the pathing system, scaling and mirroring, moving terrain with water placed, and nature brushes)
- Flying bird and fishes, which weren't in the first game at all
- Improved interactions of animals with objects, like colliding with toys, brachiation, cats sharpening their claws on wooden scenery, and eating from habitat plants (unclear if just an animation, but fun to see)
- Wildlife reserves, which enable you to build custom ecosystems to release your zoo animals into
- Explicitly stated to have a long intended support lifespan, so expect five years or more of free updates and DLC drops every couple of months to add content

PRO/CONS:
- Accreditation system extends gameplay and adds a layer of realism (improve your accreditation to unlock more rare species), but some players find it grindy or annoying (it has since been nerfed, and isn't present in sandbox mode)
- Lost many build pieces from the first game, particularly if you had DLC, but there are a ton of new pieces in exchange, notably backstage props
- LOTS of bugs on launch, but devs have already released 2 bug fix patches, so they're listening and working to improve the game

OVERALL OPINION:
Having played over 2,500 hours of the first game (certified Planet Zoo Autist), and 100 so far in this one, I am ready to call this sequel my new favorite game. People are VERY upset about the roster and the bugs, and they're right to be, but neither of those things have diminished my enjoyment, and I expect their impact to lessen as the game grows. If you're interested but hesitant, wait a couple months for further bug fixes and to hear what the first major update and DLC will add. RECOMMENDED to animal lovers and building/management fans.

Amazing game. So many good additions and gameplay changes that I adore. However, this cannot be the standard for a full release game. Most early access titles have less gamebreaking bugs than this supposed full release ready game.
- My aquarium animals get boxed up constantly
- Other animals randomly escape unescapable habitats and I find them at the other side of the map(?)
- Game crashes when you attempt to release animal into wildlife reserves, which btw is needed to do to be able to progress your franchise zoo and get new animals unlocked. So that basically makes the game 50/50 if you'll be allowed to progress or not.
- Along with hundreds of smaller constant announance bugs.

It's honestly insane to call this a full release game. I've seen alpha's with less bugs.

I have liked this game so far, and will probably continue to play it. But it's completely unacceptable to lock meaningful portions of what is really a single player game behind an external account. The franchise mode is the main mode to really engage with the games research and conservation features, and many of those are not available in the sandbox/challenge mode.

Frontier says that Franchise's online features require an account to support. I'm not convinced, but fine. Even if that is true, then the challenge mode should be at feature parity with the franchise mode for anything that doesn't rely on online connectivity. There's absolutely *no* reason that the challenge mode can't support, for example, the research system.

I Am Fundamentally Unable to Play the Game Due to Crashing.

Hello folks. I've been trying to play Planet Zoo 2. This worked fine for roughly *37 hours*, and then right around patch 1.0.7, the game stopped working. What I mean specifically by that is: * New Franchise games crash to desktop upon trying to load any map. (No prior Franchise saves to test with.) * New and existing Sandbox games crash to desktop upon try to load any map. * Career mode crashes to desktop upon trying to load previous save. Put another way: Game loads to Main Menu, and then when I try to p...
