Like the entire story takes place on a island. The playable characters all came to the island together but were separated when their airship was shot out of the sky and the story revolves around finding your missing friends and stopping the bad guys on the island who're intent on resurrecting some evil entity. I won't delve deeper to avoid potential spoilers of a fairly light story.
The story points only progress through small cutscenes when you beat a dungeon. By the way dungeons are replayable at different difficulties and the game is setup in a way that usually requires you to have played each dungeon twice to collect all the lores and remain decently leveled (no actual grind required tbh and if you do need to grind a level or two in a certain spot, the fastest way is to battle the sky pirates flying around on the world map).
The battle system is for sure the focus of the game and the most engaging aspect and it's because of this that I'm looking forward to more Battle Chasers. Would love to see a prequel game showcasing how the group of characters originally met each other, etc... as well as sequels showcasing stories in different parts of the Battle Chasers world.
If you love turn-based jRPG styled games you'll enjoy what this game has to offer. I really love the cellshaded artistic design of the game myself... and the game is currently on sale for under ten bucks so definitely pick it up if you're itching to play. If you're curious about the battle system, check out some gameplay videos on youtube.
It's actually slightly cheaper on Fanatical at the moment if you use the coupon code BLACKFRIDAY10 to get an extra 10% off the price making the final price $8.90 which I feel is a bargain for the game. I think I bought it for about $14.
