Do you use Gully?
Heya, I've played and beaten this game multiple times.
I almost never use Gully. I went with Bretto, Garrison and Monika the majority of the time. Never really had much difficulty.

Anyways.... I've been reading a few forums and watched some LPs. I have noticed that some people seem to lean heavily on Gully, using her as a permanent fixture in party. Many feel like she can't even be removed from the active group becauase "Gully is the only tank, I can't replace her!". She's in the party 100% of the time, so they must think it's impossible to survive without her

Soooo, I know people have different playstyles and that's cool. Just curious about how everyone plays.

My team for most of the game was Gully for tanking, Monika for raw damage and debuffs, and Alumon for damage, heals, and shields. Gully's great to have if you have Monika in your party, because she can't take hits very well (unless she evades them then it's moot).
The main 3 are what the designers originally intended in their game design, and its incredibly satisfying for me. I love having a tank archtype in a game like this because its so rare! Being able to really utilize a well made tank, with meaningful tactical decisions, was a blast.

Also, it depends on your difficulty level and need for efficiency. If you're playing pure legendary mode, you need every level and piece of gear you have. Switching a character out means you have to go grind. Also, when damage and efficiency matter more, you can one shot those dungeons with Gully. I didn't need to buy or craft potions, and I could efficiently get through the entire dungeon. To me, that's incredibly fun.

I'm using her for my first playthrough—her, Monika and Bretto. Level 28 now and need to head into what I think is the final dungeon, been working pretty well so far! Gully has way more HP and defense stats than the other two + she can protect them from AoE attacks with things like Guard and Heroism.

She probably becomes less useful as your party's damage goes up and heals get stronger too, but she seems perfectly viable to me.

I played Bretto, Garrison and Monika too. If you go into a battle prepared everything is dead on round 4 most of the time even round 3. A tank is not really needed. If it is your style then cool, but this game allows for many viable combinations.

I use Alumon for healing/shields, Garrison for damage and Knolan as a secondary healer, debuff removal, mana restoration, enemy buff removal and damage dealer. I just take gear and enchant wich give me more life, and the fights are either "i wipe them in a few turns" or "i overheal all your damage, it will take a while, too bad enemy cant flee."

My end game team was
Gully
Garret
Allum

Gave me two people to make barriers, 1 to heal and debuff, and a core damage dealer...
If you hit max level by the time the end boss shows up... it was easy to win.

Heres to hoping NG+ is harder!

Alumon can also dish some heavy Damage with his Burst Level 3 (Altough it takes 4 Rounds to be active)
His other Special "Devastation" can do some good quick big Damage like his other Normal which debuffs his Attack Power to 30% for some Rounds

I feel like battles just drag on with Gully in the party. Might be safer overall, but fights take longer.

I've been using Monika as a dodge tank and she's surprisingly good at it. My full party was her, Alumon, and Garrison
