Call is healer so he's must have IMO
Garrison - I found more loot for him than for other characters so he's all buffed up now
Red Monika - Her damage is huge and her skills are dealing additonal damage to enemies (burning/poison etc) and that's awesome on bosses. Also... She's hot;)
I found that Gully has good protective skills but her damage was too weak IMO
Knolan was really good but Monikas ability to set invisibility and by that both, dodge damage and combine it with additional skills, made her better for me.
I just met Alumon but he didn't join my party yet so I don't have an opinion about him yet.
Gully's tanking abilities are incredibly useful for bosses & more difficult enemies. Plus, if you really put perks into her AP bonus stats, she actually does a ton of damage.
Bretto's Wild Shot ability does a huge amount of damage, especially if you're fighting just one thing. And his heals are top notch.
Garrison's damage output it ridic & he builds Overcharge so fast it should be illegal in some states. Monika's Wild Shot ability can out-damage him when it comes to standard attacks, but his Berserk & War Strike do way too much damage to pass up.
Bretto : Huge damage especially with wild shot and his 3rd burst. Went from support to damager. His 60% crit on first strike perk make it so easy to wipe fodders with him.
Alumon : BEst support in the game hands down. Permanent haste with shield + max health makes everyone a quick tank.
Knolan : Never bad with his slow and great damage on both AoE and single-target. Quick heal in case alumon shield get bursted through. Best part about him though, is using his 60% slow (20 * 3 with perk) and then start using the 15% dmg, haste, crit rate buff along with Alumon haste buff. THat +45% haste buff against a 60% slowed boss is too op.
Garrison can hit bosses pretty hard, and stack bleeds, but I always struggle to build Overcharge for burst damage in favor of stacking debuffs. It's a tough balance in fights sometimes. I don't find his other skills that important at my stage of the game (just after Junktown).
I'm likely going to run Monika and whichever support I like more, and then Gully.
Gully can deal some pretty solid damage, and her shields also mitigate a lot. However, the shining strength I've found with her in any challenging situation is her ability to tank everything. Taunt, with all of the defensive gear available to her, makes it easy for her to absorb fatal attacks on others with Defend up. During downtime, she can build up a LOT of shields on the party or herself all the while not needing to really attack to ramp up some overcharge. If you're using Callibretto, I feel like Gully is almost required to carry his lack of party healing. Callibretto also has massive synergy with Garrison's offense.
getting some gear with will and the weapon with shadow coins for bretto made him synergise really well with monika, since he can basicaly wildfire for free, and with the perk that wildfire sunders it actually begins to deal really nice dmg
which then allows for monika to chunk even harder on the debuffed enemies
Red Monika is legit OP. LOL
Cali is good at healing but turns into a damage dealer with heal. Alumon will do the best job at healing and tanking once you get him since he can taunt with shield up and deal damage or just overheal everyone and make them all tanky.
Monika/Garrison are you go-to insane damage pick and wdill stomp the game on NG with updated weapon. Cali can also do it as well since his 3rd burst is a very high damaging move. The best part about Cali is just that his gatling attack can spread to other enemies and kill multiple of them at once unlike Garrison or Monika who are single-targeted with bleh AoE.
The one char you will want to learn though is Knolan if you plan on playing NG+. His 3rd burst, TIme warp, is just too versatile and is never bad to use in a hard fight unlike damage dealing burst that can't kill at all without the weapon.
BTW: Not many people actually know how f****ing O.P Knolan is aswell, everyone says use Alumon just because he has good stats from his items when you first see him. The amount of support Knolan can give is just rediculous.
Monika and Alumon are incredible. Gully seems like a weal link. Sure,s he can tank, but considering I literally 2 shot the final boss, that's not all that useful. If I were to play again, Monika, Alumon and Garrison would be ideal, I think.
Doing NG+ now, with the same formation due to perks, I'll probably swap her bodyguards for garrison and alumon eventually though.
My other two are Gully and Red Monika for tanking and more damaging/debuffing, obviously. Anyone know if status immunities will be a thing later in the game?
