Currently there's no place in the comics where this could take place or rather it would have to take place after where the comics are.
The closest analog would be an anime movie that's based on a currently running series, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, etc, in which it's a stand alone story that can't be happening given what's going on in the TV series at the time.
You don't need to know the characters, where they've been or what they've done to understand and enjoy this particular story. It takes place whenever and involves whatever, on another continent. It's completely off-continuity.
