A very enjoyable and easy to understand hex-based historical wargame. This will be a great gateway game to get some of my friends started in the genre. Easy rules but there's plenty going on under the hood to please old grognards. Keep up the fine work and keep that pricepoint where it is.

At least not a bad game if you are searching für a Computer-Version of old school Hex-Boardgames. The strategic mechanics, graphics and the gameplay are well done for this kind of game. The reason why i wouldn´t recommend it is simply missing content. The four scenarios use the same map and are rather short. Every scenario simply starts on another part of the map, as axis or allies. To look like a 80s boardgame is great, to have less content than one is not.

Operational-level simulation of Operation Market-Garden in 1944 with hexagon map, battalion-sized units, ranged attack for artillery and anti-tank units, supply, fog of war, and most importantly limited command points which forces players to prioritize some moves and combat over others. This is the same operation that the book and film A Bridge Too Far is about, and this little game reminds me of a paper-and-dice game published by SPI in their magazine Fire & Movement in the early 1980s. So far the AI at medium has been fairly easy for me to defeat, playing both Axis and Allies, but this can be played with up to four people and several AI levels. Very good playability, with the full campaign lasting 4-6 hours in single player mode. I only wish the AI came in crazy aggressive mode because so far it has been a competent but sedate opponent. Recommended.

This game literally achieves a breakthrough in the light strategy game market. I analyzed it in a detailed way for the purpose of a French review on Historia Games website ( http://www.histogames.com/HTML/test/assault-on-arnhem.php ). I found that the developer did a great job trying to simplify the game mechanisms without sacrificing too much of the historical context and realistic unit behaviour. Assault on Arnhem is easy to grab, it works fine and it provides an exciting challenge to green as well as experienced players. A substantial achievement from my point of vue. I want more of this kind of games!

This game is great!!if you actually give it a chance(to those with the negative reviews!),and can get past the average or non existent graphics,but these TBS games are like this,this isnt gary grisbys or Decisive campaigns for that matter,but its definately worth the price its up for,and a great addition even if for those just starting out in TBS.If you love the whole Arnhem?red devil thing then this game comes reccomended on RPSG(rockpapershotgun)Im using mouse and kb and this game works FINE!(At the time of this review there was an issue with The Ported version hence comment about KB).If like me you want to learn on games like this before progressing onto Hardcore TBS like gary Grigsby's then this is great place to begin.

Just what i was looking for, a deep turned based hex style war game that is APPROACHABLE FOR ANYONE.
About time a game like this came along, and for a fair price to top it off.
I just hope there are more titles of this nature in the works.

Typical Hexwar game... shallow and crappy.

Not a lot of substance here and just a bad "wargame". Their lighter games are actually better. This one, with its NATO counters, looks like a wargame, but its really just as light. Playing this is a waste of time. Play a real wargame instead. Or play a war-themed light game.... just not this.

I can't recommend this game. This is a straight tablet port with no effort to adapt the UI or Gameplay to PC.
The game lacks too much refinement or depth for a PC game.

- The command system is quite good and supply system is ok, but the combat model is too simplistic.
- The game doesn't make any difference between a Pz IV unit and a Tiger II one.
- The AI is bad both from a global perspective and also for local tactic.
- It is very hard to know which unit is attached to which HQ, a color code would have been so helpufl (and easy to add).
- There are only 4 scenario, one is over in 5 min. One feature the British around Arnhem and another the US around Nijmegen the last one combine those two scenarios in a big one, however it is easy to abuse the command system in the big one. So you are left with two scenarios which are not so good. Very limited replayability
- Overal this offers only limited challenge and doesn't give the feel for the historical battle.

Oh, boy.

Let's say you want to move infantry 1 hex on a clear terrain.
That should be 1 movement point, right?
Wrong. That's 1,5.

Now you want to move infantry HQ 1 hex on a clear terrain.
Soooo, that's 1,5, same as the infantry above?
Nope!
So, that's 1 this time?
Wrong again, that's 1,3.

Now you want to cross the river with the Infantry and Infantry HQ. Can you guess what's the movement cost?
You though +1 or +2 depending on the river type ? Or +1 for infantry and +2 for HQ?
Silly you, it's 0 for both. Crossing the river is free.

Let's say your whole task force consists of 3 paratrooper units and their HQ, all grouped up, on the road, in range of HQ, not an enemy in sight.
Can you just plain and simple move them? Probably you are suspicious at this point. You are right to be suspicious. You cannot.
You've got only 3 command points available (best case) so you need to permanantly leave 1 unit behind. Why? No reason.

Can you please, please stop trying to reinvent the wheel.
I don't understand how can you mess up something as basic as movement in such a simple game.

For an operation that had very few chances to succeed in the first place, surely Market Garden has been overly popular among wargames. I think there are about 20 boardgames of old on the same theme.
This tiny video game version draws its inspiration and style directly from those SPI’s an Avolon Hill’s versions of the ill-conceived airborne assault on Arnhem: hex grid, NATO counters, command points, brutally simple map.
This should be considered as an introductory-level wargame: only 4 kinds of units (tanks, infantry, anti-tanks, artillery), three scenarios (one for each key bridge) and one campaign (pretty much the aforementioned three scenarios in a row), very basic terrain effects.
As such, it’s effective.
PROS:
+ Simple, yet somehow realistic (playing as the Axis is much easier)
+ Interesting supply system that some majors should learn something from (do you hear me, Paradox?)
+ The command points / activation system, while somehow obscure in its mechanics, makes it challenging to “prevent” historical events.

CONS:
- Little appeal for expert players, due its raw simplicity
- The way anti-tanks work is, well, odd
- Very short (10 hours if you play all scenarios and campaigns, on both sides of… the bridge)
- Lacks single-player replayability
