Challenge Mode ? More like Missile Practice.

Challenge Mode is obviously repurposed deathmatch (multiplayer) maps. There's just one oversight. AI enemies can't pick up items. They're regular single player "monsters", not bots.

You are swimming in missiles. There are so many you should be getting most of your kills with missiles. Primary weapon is largely irrelevant.

You might want to go to the full release forum. Just keep in mind, the game is no longer in development.
