Book of Demons
Quality of Life - auto-attack necessary? (+ problem?)
Okay, so here's my question for not only game creators, but also for players. Do you find auto-attack feature necessary in Book of Demons?

My problem is, that pressing shift to disable it temporarily does not usually work for me. My character still attacks from time to time, which is weird. When I use the button to toggle auto-attack off completely, it is even worse, because:
1) My character still attacks monsters! It is happening, however, irregularly. The interval is longer than normal auto-attack, but it still happens.
2) It is simply inconvenient to be forced to turn it on and off constantly, to fight monsters, because with auto-attacks off, I cannot move. So, whenever I face "golden heart" monsters, I have to stand still, wait for the protection to go off (while I cannot move), and eventually I can attack with ability.

So, here is my question. Can we get an option to toggle auto-attack feature on and off, without it affecting ability to move? Who does it have to be connected? Since I find auto-attack a bit useless in this game, because smashing mouse button is much better way to kill anyway, I would like to be able to turn it off completely.

I hope I described the problem presicely enough, I wonder what is your opinion in that matter :)

I agree, I only want to click precisely when I mean to. I would also choose to disable the auto-attack, if it was an option. There are times where the auto attack is inconvenient, as you pretty much laid out in your post, no need for me to elaborate.

:archduck:

On the other hand, it's not what I'd call an urgent issue.

A toggle would be great, it's also an annoyance for me.

I prefer it off too. I find much better, as rogue, press shift (to stay on place) and click where i want to shot, rather than let her attack random enemies.

I have been tinkering with this today (because it's weekend and apparently I have no life :paperdeath:). Would some of you be willing to test drive such "no auto-attack" mode on the test branch later this week?

I've never done it before, but I quickly glanced at what test branch is, and... I am up for it :)

A sidenote – maishng the button is also obsolete, as you can hold the button, and it attacks chosen monsetr automatically.

Yes, that's true. You can also now change target just by moving the cursor to a new enemy while holding a button down.

I still mash it though, can't help myself.

Anyway, we are trying to push the test build now, fingers crossed.

O'right, the build is on the test branch. Godspeed.

In order to test the no_autoattack open custom_settings.txt (located next to the exe) and add to it line
auto_attack = "1" #Enables autoattack, this can be set to zero to disable, experimental!

and then change 1 to 0 (zero). Please report feedback in the new thread in the test branch subforum :-)

Personally i like / need the auto-attack. But the option to maybe just turn it off in the options for those that dont want it?

In the last update, we added an option to disable it via the config file. If it's popular we will eventually incorporate it into in-game options.
