Or at least give us a choice to chose which opening we want to see in the options.
And don't make the same mistake with Alternative, the other OP are fine, but Asu e no Houkou is where the legend starts. (the idea of puting the other OP as a bonus was quite sweet, if you still can please implement it)
Yeah, it's no longer the default opening theme, but at least we still can view it.
I haven't replayed the game that far tho. Will check it later. :)
2) They changed Unlimited's opening because it originally just used the same song as Extra's. Rather than leave the song the same for both openings, they used Unlimited's unique opening theme, sion, to differentiate the two.
Edit:
3) Extra also has two openings because the PS3 version of the game added a new opening that plays before the Title screen. The new opening doesn't play during Extra itself, and instead we have the original opening play. Unlimited's opening video was completely redone, and it was a purposeful decision to replace the song Muv-Luv with sion.
1. Yeah. I really like the Muv-Luv team for how friendly they are with the fans and everything. The time I opened this thread was just a day before the game was released. I was hoping that they can cooperate with Ixtl somehow to put back the original OP and release it on one of the game updates. Sadly, I don't think it'll be possible.
2. True but, the originals used different part of the same song for Extra and Unlimited. I can write a lenghty explanation for this. In short the first part feels like Sumika's words while the 2nd part feels like Takeru's. It also gives the feeling that Unlimited are the same yet different with Extra and you won't know what's waiting for you.
3. I didn't play the console ones so cmiiw. Iirc the X360 has first pain to replace Extra opening while PS3 has Love Step while on both consoles the Unlimited OP is replaced by Sion. If that's the case, then it's fine.
But if both first pain and Love Step plays as a new opening before the title screen and Muv-Luv is still the Extra opening, I don't see why they should replace Unlimited OP with Sion (and cannot put MuvLuv back for the Steam version).
Ideally if we want to have all the songs, both the Extra and Unlimited OPs should use MuvLuv while first pain/Love Step should shuffles before the title screen with Sion after the player has reached certain part of Unlimited.
I mean the most likely reason for the decision, aside from what I said before, is because sion has been used as Unlimited's theme song since the All-Ages release of Muv-Luv in 2006. And this is the version of the game that all later Muv-Luv releases is based on.
The only version that doesn't use this opening is the Windows 7 support edition.

The point is that why bother splicing Muv Luv's OP with Sion music when there was already a perfectly good looking Sion OP in the All Ages release.
>Windows 7 support edition
Windows 7 support edition was literally the original PC edition with a ported rUGP for W7. It didn't come with the all ages functions like the scene select for Alternative. That's why it had Muv Luv/Muv Luv/Asu e no Houkou as the OP.
There should be a menu option to select the OP pair for Extra/Unlimited. The original release used the two verses of Muv Luv, All Ages (and all releases hereafter. First Pain/Love Step was shown before the menu) used Divergence/Sion as the ingame OP, as those two are Sumika and Meiya's charasong respectively.
I wouldn't even trust them to attempt to put in a video toggle.
