Sweet:) This is great news then. I'm going to wait to buy the VN when the patch comes out. Hopefully the patch comes out soon so I can play this VN and get the small launch discount too:)
I finished Alternative in 3 days...and I'm a slow reader. I didn't get much sleep...let alone do anything else while playing Alternative.
The first two games are by most VN (and especially by LN standards) generic high school trash. Unlimited is better than Extra, but it still doesn't do anything in its own right to act as a standalone title. It's still imperitive that the biggest reason Alternative is good is that it is able to effectively and masterfully tie together EVERYTHING that happened in the Extra and Unlimited disks into a true work of art. For the most part, there are very subtle references in Extra and Unlimited into Alternative and references in Alternative to the first two as well. However, it's simply a question of whether it's worth it to dig through a boatload of trash in order to find gold. A large part of Alternative can be enjoyed without going through Extra and Unlimited, but I would also say half the impact of Alternative is missed out on if you don't go through the first two.
Extra and Unlimited have always been the contriversy in the orginal Muv-Luv franchise as they have to be compared to Alternative.
I seriously doubt that is the case considering that they don't have a way to sell it on steam.
How other VNs have done it is they just have a link somewhere on their studio's website to download the patch band it isn't ever directly on steam.
I can't find any concrete source either way.
If they do that I don't think you should feel bad if you grabbed the patch from a kickstarter friend or something.
I don't support charging for the +18 at all
You can get the key now if you go backerkit and sign in.
I'd call Unlimited good, especially if you're a sucker for world building like me. It ends abruptly though, so if MLA was never a thing, that would suck.
I'd assume the 18+ patch was low priority, and expect it after MLA (though hopefully this year). For Extra and Unlimited H-scenes, you aren't missing much, but I understand waiting to purchase until the patch is a reality.
Only eroge I've played was Tears to Tiara, and it was basically just a fun VN/RPG hybrid with some completely random, utterly inconsequential, and super cringe-worth sex scenes dumped in every few hours.
