Can't pause game?

I'm playing this game with a Gamecube controller (connected via a USB adaptor) and a wireless keyboard. I had the button mapping set to the defaults (F1 for keyboard and the nonexistent menu button for my controller) and found that I couldn't pause the game with F1. I switched the pause button to Esc, thinking there was a function key conflict, but that still didn't work.

There doesn't seem to be a conflict of controllers here, as I can control characters with both seamlessly. I'm not sure what is causing this, so any help is appreciated.

I should add that the game paused fine the first time I played it, but now it suddenly stopped functioning properly.

I cannot pause the game eiither, haven't found a fix. Seems to only work while at camp.

After getting the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, I was able to pause, albeit by using the space key, regardless of what key I had set for pause.
