can you pick your character?

Can you choose who to play as? or is there a mode in which you can choose who you play as? and can you upgrade your characters? Thanks SO MUCH! just wondering before I shell out the moolah!

Story mode the first time through has you use certain characters but once you get to the Epilogue your able to replay the missions as any character you want. There is also side skirmishes which you unlock early that allow you to play as whatever character you want. Finally each character levels seperately and with each level unlocks a new skill for them.

Basically for the first half of the story mode you used fixed characters, then after you defeat the Female Titan you unlock the rest of the game's "epilogue stages" (basically the second half the game) all of these can be done with whichever character you choose. Multiplayer is also free selection.

Add note, to pick character can only be done when you loading the game. To re-select character, you've to back to main menu and continue your play.
