Rainbow Drops?

Does anyone know the exact number of hints you can buy with these? I think it was 24 in total, but I couldn't buy all of them at once for some reason.

I believe you can use as many as you like for as many secret loots that remain. It will only reveal chests in locations you have already visited. So when you visit a new dungeon location, more drops can be used to reveal the chests in those areas.

However, I did find a minor flaw with this design. If you enter the castle bridge section just right of the town of Lupia, the game seems to think that you have pre-maturally entered the Castle dungeon, and will begin to waste several of your rainbow drops on chest locations that you cannot yet enter for a good while.

Maybe you're right, I'm sure ? marks popped up where I hadn't been before in an area I had just visited a little bit thus far (castle and final dungeon) but perhaps not completely unvisited ones. Maybe that was the gating for it so to speak.

Yeah that thing with the castle area probably happened to me. I had been very thorough prior to that but had a few appear in the first area and elsewhere, mainly trial & error-ish fake wall ones.
