From Mike & Matt
For some time, we've wanted to provide an update on Revival and Overload. Some of us got busy and we kept waiting for the Xbox version to be done (update: it was submitted on Monday for approval), but here's the status.

We founded Revival and built a team to make Overload, not really planning to create a lasting company that would build more games. We wanted to have fun creating a spiritual successor to Descent, and we're very happy with the results.

We would have liked to do more with Overload -- more DLC drops (we will do another community DLC pack), new features, maybe a sequel. Those things look very unlikely now. We're gratified by Overload's strong user reviews and we love the community that has formed around the game. Nonetheless, sales have been disappointing and can't justify much additional work on the project.

We're still spending time on Overload, but most of us have moved on. Roughly half the full-time team members are now working at Volition. (Props to Chelsea and Ed who leveraged their Overload experience into Associate Producer positions!) Luke is back to working full-steam at Radian Games. (Check out Scorcher, coming later this month!) Matt is working on ideas for a new (game-related) project. Mike had planned on loafing for several months and then deciding what to do, but suddenly and unexpectedly found himself rejoining Volition as General Manager.

We are proud of Overload and have many fond memories. The Kickstarter, which was as all-consuming as many had warned, was very satisfying in the end. We both enjoyed being (slightly rusty) programmers for the first time in years, and it meant a lot to be part of such a talented team. We were gratified by the community of both newcomers and Descent fans still committed a game we created over 20 years ago. And it's particularly meaningful to see team members who got a career boost out of their work on Overload.

Maybe we'll do it again in another 20 years.

We're not fully shutting down. We'll certainly continue to receive money from Steam, GoG, Humble, Sony, Microsoft, other. :) This was a great ride and we'd all like to say more at some point. I rank this right up with the most successful games we've shipped in terms of personal satisfaction. I got to be on a team again, first time in almost 20 years. DLC#2 will be happening. Maybe more, who can predict the future. Maxx -- when we do our next Kickstarter in 20 years, maybe we'll auto-pledge for our retiree backers.

We're all moving on to things we care about. I'm very happy about the last 3.5 years.

Say it ain't so! The gaming world needs you guys! Do you guys have any other games in production, or is this it for your company?

Breaks my heart hearing this news, but I'm still ever so grateful that you still gave us this.

Game deserved good sales and reviews, shame only one of those came through :(
Good luck with your future endeavors and thanks for a great game!
Hopefully the community will keep on providing unofficial support and mods!

Is this going to disappear from Steam?..

I didn't buy it because I'm in a bad economic situation...

You guys did an awesome job on Overload, and I just want to say thanks for breathing some life into the Descent series again. It's one of my all-time favorite games, and it's awesome I get to enjoy it again in 2018-2019 (in Linux, too!). I wish you the best of luck.

That a game of this quality fails to sell blows my mind, and is extremely depressing. I guess all the kids are playing Fortnite and Battlefield these days. Such a shame they don't know what they are missing... well, at least mine don't :)
Best of luck and keep us posted on your future projects. All the best...
I think the omission of co-op was a mistake.

Nope! This ought to be on Steam until Steam shuts down for whatever reason.

I think you guys did a great job. Just finished the game, and I really enjoyed it.

Hey Mike and Matt, I'm sorry to hear that the economics of this hasn't worked. I (along with my lifelong friends) will always be grateful for the opportunity you've afforded us to play the true successor to the Descent series. If I am still kickin' at 80 years old I will pitch for a new kickstarter so you guys can come out of retirement. ( I assume you'll be retired in another twenty years). Also be assured that we will still be playing D2 and D3, as well as Overload. This game may just be too difficult for ground pounders to adjust to. We 6 dof-ers are a different breed. Thanks again and don't be surprised if you run into me somewhere in the future. Maxx out.

Thanks for the amazing work! If you do it again 20 years later, I'll be sure to pre-order at the 19th-year mark,

Hadn't even got the chance to buy it yet; but if the company is going to be going defunct, why give the money to people who will never get it? I couldn't even play descent for god's sake and this is a kick in the ♥♥♥♥ :steamsad:
