new difficulty is not funy
after 10 min gameplay (challenge mod) it is not more playable. to many robots attack from all side and often enemy robots respawn to my position. all rooms are full with robots and shoot blind to player befor see him. for insane mod that is ok. but not for another difficulty.

In my opinion there is a pretty big (and also necessary) jump in difficulty between the presets. It takes quite a bit of time to become "reacquainted" with the enemies (and their behavior) in each preset.

However, there is surely a bit of prediction on the part of the AI as it stands. I think it could be remedied by implementing a slight delay in their firing after seeing you, to mimic an actual player lining up their shot. But that could be easily abused (you could just poke a corner repeatedly) and its implementation (how one would go about this) is far beyond my knowledge. I do not think they should be able to tag you immediately if you duck behind a corner and come out at a different elevation (or are just coming around the corner for the first time, either). On the flip side, they should have pretty good awareness of your activities. They are security bots afterall (that's the way i've explained it to myself anyways). I imagine that they are, in some respect, able to communicate to one another on some basic level, like giving my location (it is their level, their home/workplace).

Good players will be able to predict what another player is doing or will do to some extent, trying to find a balance with AI is tricky in any game, escpecially ones with skill ceilings as high as is present here. If you dumb down the AI too much, the more experienced players won't find the challenge needed. If they are too aggressive, the game/mode becomes unapproachable. Its a tricky line.

--This all being said, in my opinion, they've done a pretty good job with the difficulty level presets.

We made a change with the June drop (I think) in which robots were not as quick to fire at you after having lost sight. We made a change recently that will be in our next drop in which their maddening omniscience about your location has been weakened, giving you a better chance of getting in the first shot or even just getting out of the way before they fire.

On the other hand, we're introducing a tough bot...will be interesting to see how this sorts out. :)

Oooh... are we finally gonna start to see the tough bots in the campaign levels too?

Thanks for the information. I'm looking forward to the upcoming update :)

So then play on Rookie or Hotshot. Even getting 40 on Ace is decent. You're judging yourself too harshly. If you were getting over 200 on Ace at one point, then it was before Ace was corrected and made to be as difficult as it's supposed to be. Besides, there are some new bots now.

I dont want play rookie or hotshot. i am not noob :) I play all my games with highest difficulty and have no problem with it. By Overload i have no chance to survive. I created a Video proof.
Enemy bullet has now more damage. Look my video.

Brother, you aren't supposed to be able to master every difficulty. There is supposed to be a challenge. That is why the leaderboards scale the way they do. You don't see 600+ Ace runs. You do see 600+ Rookie runs (from the same pilots: Hello Mr. Necktie and raptur6dof). Thats how difficulty scaling works.

If you were able to have the same casual runs on Ace as you do on Rookie, what would be the point? You are playing at the second to highest difficulty level, it is supposed to be difficult. I agree with TwoCables, if you aren't enjoying it, go to a lower difficulty. There is nothing "noob" about it. *I play at every difficulty.

One video cannot enable me to compare.

You have a way of thinking that I recommend you stop or change. You think playing on Rookie or Hotshot means you are a noob. It does not. It just means you desire a longer CM session. It doesn't mean you suck or your skills are low. I can barely get past 30-40 on Hotshot, but I can get over 200 on Rookie. I like those longer games, so I play on Rookie.

You think that because you play all of your other games on highest difficulty that you should do it with Overload and have no problem. It does not. Overload is Overload. It is not to be compared to other games.

You might not realize this, but Ace difficulty in Challenge Mode is supposed to be about this difficult. The reason why it was easier before is, the game is a little more complete now than it was before. AI has been improved, new bots that are extremely tough have been added, etc.

The very name "Challenge Mode" means it's supposed to be hard. 40 kills on Ace is damn good. I think you've been a Hotshot player all along and are just now discovering it because now the game is getting closer and closer to being more like the way it's supposed to be. You're comparing it to Drop #2. Drop #6 has better AI, more bots, and they are very tough bots too.

I'm sorry, but Overload's Challenge Mode on Ace difficulty is supposed to be this hard. If you don't like it, then play on Rookie or Hotshot. Try Hotshot first. Don't judge the difficulty by its name nor by where it's located on the list. Just play and have fun.

Overload shouldn't be compared to other games. Imagine what Descent would be like if it had a Challenge Mode. Just as with Overload, in a Descent Challenge Mode, you could potentially face every single bot in the entire game in one map. Think about all the different bots you could face in Descent in a Descent Challenge Mode. Yeah, that would be just as hard as this. If you don't like it, choose an easier difficulty level. Again, I can't even get past 30-40 on Hotshot, so I choose Rookie and I'm fine with that. No one is judging me or thinking less of me because I can't do better than that.

I've been playing Descent 2 for 21 years and I'm playing on Rookie and loving it. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Be prepared for more robots. They plan to have 20+ different robots. Some of the ones that aren't in the game yet could potentially be more difficult than any we've seen so far. Think about the kind robots that would be needed for the last couple of levels in Story Mode. Think about how hard they'd need to be.

I think their final design on Challenge Mode is a game mode that's intended to be extremely difficult. The robots are supposed to be terrifying.

I am pretty sure I saw MikeK say somewhere that he is a Rookie (maybe it was Hotshot) player. I wouldnt dare call him a "noob" lol.
TwoCables Aug 8, 2017 @ 6:41pm
Yep. Mike Kulas always plays on Rookie. He has never been afraid to say that. He plays Descent and Overload on Rookie. That's just the way he is. He is just a gentle and peaceful person. He's not much of a fighter. He's a very passive person.

Difficulty is not the problem. The problem is, after a short game time it is end. There is no way to survive. The robots see me through the walls in map and at first shot to me befor i see them. Then while fighting, respawn in my vicinity and shoot to me. It will be more fun if you have a way to survive. Ok if I try 20x, maybe I can create 1x something more to play. But mostly after some minutes it is gameover.

I know the game is still in development and until the final version comes out, surely will change a lot. I only write my opinion what I think about it. So far I have found some errors and reported. These were removed by update.

Btw, I also played Descent 1-2-3. And since appearance :)

Again, try Hotshot. You are obviously playing at a difficulty that is above your skill for Overload. Stop comparing Overload to other games and just enjoy Overload for what it is. If you want "a chance to survive" (you are saying you want each session to last longer), then play on Hotshot - or even on Rookie. That is the only way you will get what you want. There's nothing wrong with the game itself, and there's nothing wrong with the Ace difficulty level. It is supposed to be this hard! So please stop complaining That's like complaining the robots are shooting at you!

Look at me. I can't get past 30 or 40 kills on Hotshot (yes, on Hotshot), but do you see me complaining? Why should I? I just play on Rookie and each session lasts me 20-25 minutes! Rookie is perfect for me. I get much better results going 1 step down from a difficulty level that's too hard for me. Since Hotshot is 1 step down from Ace, I think Hotshot will be perfect for you. It doesn't mean you are less of a man. Good grief.

So, stop complaining and play on Hotshot or even on Rookie. Trust me. There's nothing wrong with doing that. You will have fun. Isn't that the whole point? To have fun? The Ace difficulty level isn't broken or messed up. It's supposed to be that hard, r3un1on.
