Mouse/Keyboard setup - playing as a lefty
Grabbed the playable teaser yesterday and was absolutely hooked....not sure why I hadn't seen this on Steam (or elsewhere) until now.

I'm a lefty, so I typically use the NUMPAD keys with my right hand for all movement. I'm wondering if there are any other lefty's out there that also play with M/K ? If so, would anyone care to share their bindings with me ? While I seem to think that I managed to setup a satisfactory set of bindings, I'm not using anything for rolling. Cheers !

I'm not a lefty, but if I were using the Keypad like that, then I would be using Keypad 7 and Keypad 9 for rolling Left and rolling Right.

I have a strange setup for a righty for mouse and keyboard (my keyboard has the typical standard 104-key layout):

I should explain my mouse buttons. I have a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical, so I have 5 buttons: left, right, wheel, and a left side button and a right side button.

Mouse0 is my left mouse button.
Mouse1 is my right mouse button.
Mouse2 is my wheel.
Mouse3 is my left side button.
Mouse4 is my right side button.

Thank you, especially for the screenshots. I'll try your suggestion with NUM7 and NUM9 for rolling (I currently have flare and headlight set to those - need light !!).

Have you noticed any significant difference when changing the AUTO-LEVELING and KEYBOARD-RAMPING settings ?

You're welcome!

It's difficult to describe the differences. All I can say is, try each setting to see what the differences are.

I'd kill keyboard ramping, personally -- played a lot of descent KB-only and it was just a detriment. If you need it for finer aim, that's def personal preference though. Auto-leveling is a similar crutch -- you'll learn to move and fly *better* without it but as training for 6dof games (not sure if this is your first or not), you'll learn the mechanics *faster* with it.

I don't see Auto-Leveling as a crutch. I played without Auto-Leveling in Descent 2 (the only Descent I played) since 1996. Of course Auto-Leveling in Descent sucks hard. In Overload though, when I tried Auto-Leveling just to see what it was like, it made my game much much much much better - especially with the 90-degree rolling.

The reason why I tried it was due to the game play footage they had of the original Playable Teaser. They were using Auto-Leveling with the 90-degree rolling, so I decided to see what that was like. I haven't disabled Auto-Leveling ever since. It's a million times better for me this way because I can focus on playing the game instead of simultaneously dividing my attention between keeping myself level and playing.

Auto-Leveling in Overload is the way auto-leveling should have been in Descent. It's done extremely well, and it's especially awesome with 90-degree rolling (I know I'm repeating myself, but it's worth it).

Overload, Descent Underground, and Geocore all have auto-leveling. If you can turn it off and on, what's the problem including it?

Initial remapping trial (working pretty good for me.):

W=up Space=down S=forward X=backwards

Leaving A & D & Q & E & Mouse in default.

Thought I'd chime in on the quality of auto-leveling in this game. I just purchased a HOTAS yesterday and started playing with it. I had to turn auto-leveling on for the first hour or two to even navigate the maps. But during that time I really grew to appreciate just how well auto-leveling is handled in this game. I unbound the roll axis, didnt even have the "roll 90" bound. I had no roll control bound at all and played for two hours without any issue. That being said, I've turned it off again, just because flying with full control with this HOTAS is so damn fun and I can somewhat do it now. The method @TwoCables described sounds pretty fun I might give that a go, becuase I'm still pretty poor with this new setup. Turning leveling on and put "roll 90" on the twist axis of the joystick might be pretty sweet. Anyways Overload auto-leveling = big thumbs up for those that need/want it.
