Each XBox controller register as 2 players
Hello,

I have a bug since I started to play Overcooked : every time I try to play with one, two or three Microsoft Xbox gamepads (wireless and official) every gamepad register as 2 players. When i need to select characters, then I click on A button to valide my character, it activate another character, just as I connected another gamepad. In that case, either 1 gamepad controls 2 characters simultanusly or not if I configure it differently in the specific menu

I cannot play at all with my friends if we are 2 or 3, the only thing that work is having at least one of my friend control 2 characters
I have no problem with my keyboard which register as only 1 player everytime.

Hey Flo,

Thanks for getting in touch.
It sounds like you might have the controllers set to run with split input.
This allows two users to play with a single controller.
If you'd like to disable this, please follow the steps below:
  • Launch Overcooked
  • Open the Options
  • Go into the Controller Split Settings
  • Move the left analogue stick left or right, until the controller is a single colour and only has one number above it.
If you're still having problems after completing the steps above, let me know.

Thank you,

I'm having the same issue with an Nvidia shield controller. The above solution did not work for me.

I have both an Xbox and an Nvidia controller and the Nvidia controller gets recognised as two.

I got it to work once by disconnecting and reconnecting it but I don't seem to be able to do this anymore

Hey awspersuasion,

I've just tried this on my system but don't experience the same behaviour.
So that I can pass this on to the team, I'd like to ask that you please get back in touch with a step by step of exactly what you're doing and what happens.
Please also confirm the following in your response:
  1. The exact model of your NVidia controller
  2. The driver NVidia shield driver version installed on your PC
  3. Whether your keyboard, your XBox controller or your NVidia controller are the primary controller (the one that controls the menus)

Thank you,

Hi, I also have the same issue with the Xbox360 controller that have 2 player registered. Even if I move the analogic stick' until the controller is a single colour and only has one number above it', outside of the option menu (everywhere in fact) my controller still plays as 2 players (when I push A for UI validation, the 2nd player is activated like he have a "wake" action on his controller) the weird thing is when I push B the second player switch to "OFF" I don't really understand what's happening... I only have 2 xbox 360 controller and a keyboard connected.
Hey all,

A Lurking Grue,
I've merged your thread with this one as they're about the same behaviour.
Please check out my earlier posts to see if this can be fixed manually.

-KX-,
Thanks for posting this information.
The team have a link to this thread so that this can help in their investigation.

Thank you,

Same issue here, using an Xbox one controller. When I try to start a game with one player using keyboard and one player using controller, it keeps adding another controller in input selection with different color. I have checked device manager if multiple instances of xbox one controller are insalled, and there's just the one.

Same issue with both xbox one and xbox 360 controllers :steamsalty:

The issue is specific when I enable XBox or Generic Controller Support from Steam that allow to remap controllers buttons the same way as the Steam Controller.

As soon as I disable it everyting is working as intended.
