Relation to the previous game (also called Little Walker)?

Hi! So, a long time ago I played the free version of Little Walker (that iirc is no longer available to download) and I'd like to know what the relation is between that version and this one. Is this one a full fledged remake, a sequel or what else?

This you might call Little Walker new and improved but it's the same basic game. Just with updated graphics, music, a couple new level segments, various game-play adjustments, a load of bug fixes, and of course steam achievements!

Oh that sounds great! I only played some levels of the original, so it'll be great to finally conclude it on this updated version :D

I'm playing what I assume is the original and it didn't come with any instructions afaik.
Every now and then I "Level Up" but 1) don't know how and 2) what it does.
Apart from being collectibles, do Plusms do anything? (I think they contribute to levelling up).
Is there a way to bring up a hud to show where you are and how many plusms you need (info shown on the Level Select)?
