@kriswd40. How about one extra life per 100,000? Without being killed - being killed resets the counter. Only one additional life allowed in reserve at any time, so no stacking up one every 100,000.
Also, how about 2 more achievements? 40 and 50. Making 13 in total, which is a nice number, being prime and all. This is without any extra lives.
Just a thought on what might make a very, very addictive game even moar addictive.
I'll think about the new achievements. I'm knee deep in making a new game right now though so not super focused on improving old ones.
This is repetitive enough up to level 30 so please kriswd40, do not add new achievements to the game. The achievements look fine as they are today.
Looks like I'm the only person still playing this. A shame, because it's become one of my favourite arcade shooters.
Really happy to hear you're still enjoying the game all these years later. No news on a sequel sadly.... I've jotted down a few ideas I'd like add to a sequel but for now I've got other projects I've been working on. Just this year we released Flappy Hypership Out of Control (a small parody game we released on April 1st) and Volleyballed. We're hard at work on Platinum Kill still too, a game we've been working on for many years. We also released Hypership Out of Control 2 last year and have released several updates to it since.
I still play this game regulary (I mean every few weeks or month). I'm currently n°9 on high score.
Btw, I always play as Kabuki.
@Spacejack - That's awesome to hear! Yeah it might look like Centipede but it plays a ton faster. I have an arcade machine too that i play it on from time to time and it's pretty cool. I should try and get a trackball on that too.
Almost every old school Arcade games have bonus life feature. Were they so easy because of it ? Hell no.
Defender, the arcade game that is still considered to be one of the hardest games of all time gives bonus ships at every 10000 scores. Even centipede and millipede, the game your project is based on give bonus at 12000 points.
Extra life is a feature that encourages players to play the game further. It's so satisfying when I lost many lives but managed to recover it with skills.
If you are afraid of dragging the game too long, increase the score required for extra life at each bonus. For example if the first extra life is at 10000 points, make the next extra life require earning 15000, 20000, 25000, and so on.
To make extra lives work I think I'd have to redo a lot of the game to make it more difficult and I just don't really want to make that drastic of a change. If I ever make a sequel though I'll keep this in mind.
