You cant hip fire an MG-42 in real life unless you're massive. The recoil would pop it out of your hands and you'd most likely shoot yourself in the face. + They're pretty heavy, so I doubt you'd be able to hold it up to aim like a regular carbine for more than 3 seconds.
There's a reason German units didn't run around with an MG-42 like an MP-40 in WW2, there was a gunner and a feeder. The way the game uses machine guns is unrealistic and unbalanced.
