How to Report a Hacker
Today we will learn how to report a hacker properly

If you suspect someone of hacking, do not freak out. Remain calm. You will live to fight another day.

Do your best not to make it known that you suspect someone of hacking. The last thing you want them to do is leave or turn off their hacks because you freaked out on them. You don't want them to leave before you can actually gather concrete evidence.

Also please understand that some people have been playing video games for a VERY long time and some people actually compete for real monies so they're quite good.

A screenshot or steam profile IS NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE! You must have video evidence while showing exactly who that person is (STEAM ID preferred)

REQUIRED STEPS TO REPORT A HACKER

  1. Open console ( ` ) or TILDE button on keyboard

  2. Type "record DEMONAME" - the name only takes letters and numbers, no symbols of ANY kind or spaces. This will start a local demo file that saves to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\dayofinfamy\doi.

The demo file can only be played in Day of Infamy and will become obsolete when a patch is deployed to the game.

  3. While recording, type status in console. Status gives you a list of all the players in the server and their steam IDs. A STEAM ID IS NOT THE SAME THING AS A STEAM PROFILE.

If the hacker is using a common autochange name copy hack, wait until the hacker changes his name again and type status again in console (NOTE: You will now have typed status TWICE in console). This is to catch the hacker by matching up paired steam IDs. You don't want to accidently report the wrong person because he copied someones name.

  4. Hit F5 to take a screenshot while console is open and displaying both "status" read outs.

  5. During this whole process you are recording the hacker via the demo file. Be sure to record for an extended amount of time. You want to make sure it is clear he is hacking. You want to make sure that anyone watching the demo file could, without reasonable doubt, connect that player with the STEAM ID in console.

  6. You can report directly to NWI - http://support.newworldinteractive.com/home

I have already reported the following player directly to Mikee at NWI:

https://steamid.io/lookup/STEAM_0:1:170485372

All of this done while recording a demo first. Following the exact instructions I just stated.

NWI is committed to banning hackers.

Thank you for this. He is banned from our server now. We have caught quite a few hackers as well which is in our Sourcebans. (FZG).
