Everything Wrong with Day of Infamy [LONG]
I may not be a known person in the community or a qualified one. But there are many things wrong with this standalone title which any gamer should come to see!

First of all, lets see how the developers are trying to sell the game

"From Mod to Standalone, Day of Infamy following the path of Insurgency"

There is a very big difference, Insurgency started as an HL2 Modification but the standalone offered SO MUCH more than the Mod ever offered. Textures Updated, Gameplay Mechanics, Gamemodes... And in fact the Insurgency Standalone is hardly comparable to the Mod after all the additons that have been added.

Day of Infamy however looks like the Modification from Insurgency has just been ported into its own Exe.
The content being offered in the standalone is nowhere near the standard that insurgency offered players. At this stage the developers should give us good reasons and persuade us to switch from the Mod to the Standalone just how Insurgency did.

Why should i pay $20 for a few extra weapons and maps, Just make a DLC for insurgency that includes extra items and maps if you are that worried.

Stolen Game Assets dating back 11 YEARS

And another point i should make is this... Why should i pay $20 for something that has clearly had minimal work put into it. Take a look at this:

Day Of Infamy Standalone Screenshot

This Screenshot is being used on the store page of Day of Infamy. Notice anything? To many old school gamers this LOW Quality American Soldier should look familiar to you. This model has been ripped straight out of Day Of Defeat, Another infamous Source Engine WW2 game.

Day Of Defeat: Source Screenshot

I have one question to ask... Why? If anything the developers have down graded,
their original models from the Day Of Infamy Mod are Higher quality in textures and are not a direct rip from Day of Defeat.

If we dig deeper we will probably find many other assets ripped straight from other games such at that destroyed tank in the background... Oh wait, that looks exactly like the destroyed tank asset seen in many Day of Defeat Maps. Oh, And that M1 garand Model is the exact same from Day of Defeat Source?

I understand that it is the same gun and same tank, however each ww2 game should make their own asset of the Tank & M1 Garand with unique weapon sounds too!
Why on earth is Day of Infamy using the EXACT SAME assets.
They are identical! You can tell this from the M1 Garand. On both M1 garands they have the strap holders for carrying the weapon.

Only few games include this on their M1 Garand, Especially without actually including the strap attatched to the holders... It has been taken straight from Day of Defeat Source.

I understand that this game is still in Early Development stages and i hope that they will upgrade and create their own assets in the future.
But its not going to cut it for a game that is ready for Early Access in only a months time.

To sum it all Up

It lacks Features.
It steals assets from other games that are 11 Years old.
It doesn't give US (The Community) a reason to purchase.
and if anything, its a crappy move on the developers charging $20 when other titles on kickstarter offer the EXACT same gameplay with better graphics and more features for reasonable prices.

Heres to name a few:
Days of War
Batallion 1944

( I will not name games such as battlefield as their developer companies are larger than Day Of Infamy's team. With much more experience. However Days of War And Batallion are Indie Development studios.)

Yes, we currently use some DoD:S character art as placeholder, and they will be replaced before the game is available for purchase. In the meantime, we have permission from Valve to use them.

Why do you not make this game in Unreal like ins:sandstorm???? At least it will deserve a standalone and even 40 dollars...

@JBlum
Thats good to know that you will be changing it, But i am wondering. Do you not have permission to use the "more detailed" models that are already in the mod?
From a buyers point of view it looks as if i would be downgrading from a Free Mod to a Paid game with worse textures? I'm looking at it from the perspective of watching the trailer. Giving my first thoughts.

Well if it's placeholder it doesn't matter much. They're being replaced with high quality brand new characters before the early access launch. The new art is already pretty far along.

It's going to take us a while to create the "platform" we want to create on UE4. Better to give our community an awesome new game built off our Source Engine platform in the interim while they are patiently waiting for Sandstorm. That's how we see it anyway. If DOI becomes popular, then maybe we could bring it to UE4 and console after Sandstorm, if demand exists for that.

We at New World are very excited about Day of Infamy. The trailer doesn't show the gameplay and new features, which we believe will prove to be the major selling point.

@JBlum That is amazing to hear, I only really play Insurgency now for Day Of Infamy and it has earned its spot to be fair.

The only thing i can request is that another "Release" trailer should be shown to us closer to the Early Access date showing these updated features and gameplay along with the High Quality art style.

Doing that will surely sell the game to me.

Ok I understand your point of view. Hope of success for you and hope you will continue maintain insurgency again.

Day Of Infamy is going to be in Early Acces for few months after release, so all those things will change and improve. You can find some more info on the Store Page

We aim to replace any placeholder content with highly polished artwork by the time the game ships.

Also, DOI actually uses it's own M1 Garand model - here's a comparison[i.imgur.com] :D

They are very similar, My bad on that part however some assets are taken from Day of Defeat :)
I'm glad this situation is turning out better.

This definitely feels like a grab, though I can't really complain because I got a key for free.

Insurgency went a really long way from closed alpha and today it feels like a beloved child of the developers, it had all the love and attention and I'm really proud for all the work done on the game. I'm proud to be an alpha suppoerter of this game.
On my memory, not so many early access games (and INS started way before steam early access existed) come out good and get the amount of support INS had, it offers a great value for the price. The mods, the workshop, game modes and overall polish make it THE best source game on my list and a game on par with Terraria by the amount of content added post-release.

But this game honestly feels very shallow not even looking at palceholder content. I just hope that it gets the amount of dedication and love INS got and I have faith in NWI because they proven themselves to be worthy of my trust.

Well, in that case showing the trailer on E3 without it was not the best choice.

Jeremy, will Insurgency owners get DOI at a discount?

I appreciate the devs responding to our concerns.
As someone who's played with the devs and such and always been helping with feedback as much as possible, the gun balance is not there. If they don't add 2x the weapons and more points to make it more customizable, it's gonna be a joke. It SUCKS when I last played it a week ago.

DOI standalone seriously needs a LOT of additional work and features. The mod was fine for an hour or so, but was lacking. Otherwise I don't see a point why to bother and not just get back to something like Call of Duty 2, for example, or RO2.
