So not only is it a negligable weight difference, you are also wrong. The paratrooper version is slightly heavier.
As for why they're separate weapons, I'm not sure. Back it Early Access it was supposed to be a cosmetic attachment either tied to the unit or as a separate unlock a la cloth wraps
