Nvidia HFTS Shadows
For anyone with a powerful Nvidia-based GPU rig who are wondering why this game is eating their system alive with everything maxed, try turning the shadow detail down to ultra. Nvidia made their own shadow tech, that while clever and aesthetically pleasing, eats over 15 frames per second when enabled. Ultra shadows still look amazing, so don't bother going higher or even monster computers will start to chug.

I checked out the Watch Dogs 2 tweaking guide on Nvidia's website (I'll link below) and their own benchmarks with that setting enabled just destroys performance. Now with my shadows at Ultra, I get a buttery smooth game and have performance left over for anti-aliasing. The guide is also super comprehensive, so it's bound to help in many ways if you need to tweak settings to make the game run better.

What an awesome post! Many thanks for the link. That guide shows all framerate expenditure against every setting and is a real eye opener. Despite having twin GTX 1080s, I've been having problems finding a comfortable framerate (can't get above 50fps) so this will be invaluable. The 'expensive' settings are not the ones I thought!
