Game Crashing upon start and Uplay Launcher running in background
The game shows the small screen of Watch Dogs 2 in the middle. Then it closes and Steam shows it's not running. I check my task manager and it says Uplay launcher is running but nothing is happening. Help please!

Try running steam in Administrator mode, that seemed to fix my problem with it. Cheers.

I was having this issue too. I have it on uPlay, not Steam, but this should still fix it:

1. Find Uplay.exe on your system so that you can access the file properties. (probably in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher)
2. Open the compatibility tab and select 'Run as Administrator'
3. Restart Uplay

I was having this exact issue. According to Loopy cs.money on this thread, there is a link you can go to. I went there and it says that the game may have issues with multiple monitors mirroring the same output (like if you have a VR headset or two displays with the same output). I unplugged my other outputs and it works now. Running anything and everything as Admin in windows did nothing for me. Ubisoft put multi monitor support in, but if you're mirroring, it can cause your problems.

TL;DR
physically unplug your other monitors/displays and try running.

HouseNoodleSoup's solution was the correct one for me. Though, rather than unplugging, I just set my 3rd display to extend the desktop and presto, worked first time.

There is another solution.... Maybe you are as dumb as me and havent tried launching other games. If that is the case try and if it fails just restart steam. Cheers!
