Brands by Country & Region
After GIJoe597 left this comment in another thread, it got me thinking:

It does indeed feel appropriate to use certain brand tractors for certain maps. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with farming equipment and their brands. Can those of you in the know help me to compile a list of region-specific brands? I'd especially like to know what brands to use for the US and the UK, but brands for other countries and regions would be a welcome addition to the list.

GIJoe597 already mentioned for the US:
John Deere, Massey Ferguson and Ford

I've also seen Case. What about the big yellow CAT tractors? I see lots of those tractors in my area. Are they for construction only, and not farming?

Please do not limit the discussion to tractors. I'd be curious to know if I'm using the "wrong" trailers, spreaders, sowers, etc. on my maps.

I'm from rural UK. See ALOT of New Hollands in my area. About 85-90% of the tractors, harvesters and balers used round here are NH; not many Case though. The next most common is proabably Massey, seen the odd Fendt and Valtra as well. And an ocasional JD.

Saying that is could just be my area, if you go to other counties might be totally different.

It's probably useful to know that a lot of the different brands are part of just two major corporations:

AGCO:
- Challenger (bought from CAT)
- Fendt
- GSI
- Massey Ferguson
- Valtra

CNH:
- Case IH
- New Holland
- Steyr
(plus Iveco and various firms for construction equipment)

Then there's also Claas:
- Claas
- CAT (selling Claas combines under their own brand)
- Renault Tractors (sold off to Claas, was the basis for their own tractors)

As for by country, I've certainly seen a lot of Fendt, a good number of Claas and Case, and a few New Holland in Germany so far.

Case and John Deere are the most common in the US. I also see New Holland in my area sometimes.

You can buy tons of different brands of tractors in the US but Case and John Deere are the maon two.

I usually also tend to stick to vehicle theme. Here is what I use :
UK map - NH(kinda hard imagining UK map without them) and MF(every UK modder puts them in their maps as started vehicles).
US map - Case(since WH map) and JD(well pretty obvious one). I never used Ford since mods are usually old looking low HP tractors and I prefer at least 200 HP tractors for map strat.
EU map(here where I live) - I used mainly Fendt tractors since majority bigger tractors are Fendt(well they have one MF too) and smaller tractors are all Case. But other farmers here use used other Brands. Usually 1 farm is using 1-2 tractor Brands(sister worked on farm where they have JD tractors only). Combines - Claas is super dominant in my country, but you can see NH combines and some other brands(Case, JD...) as well. Forage Harvesters - again Claas Jaguar everywhere, sometimes Crone. Agro Trucks - Tatra and Škoda Liaz are still super dominant here. also IVECO trucks are slowly replacing old trucks.
Platinum expansion - well Stara is obvious. I also read that NH/Case combo is popular, JD(too bad there is only 3 tractors on modhub and I do not trust sites like modhoster) ofc and AGCO vehicles.

I would think the biggest NH would be more for American maps - as it is huge and from what I've seen, if you could even get it around the map you'd harvest the entire average UK field in about 20 seconds, if that.

Well, there are no newer ones since the tractor part went to New Holland.

You might as well have CNH under Fiat, which also has Deutz, Lamborghini, Huerlimann, Iveco, and Same

And it would never get anywhere cause of the roads. I've never seen a CR10 :'( . Lots of smaller ones though. So it's not just the brand to consider.

I think it probably depends on dealerships in a given area. Many years ago there were two, one that sold Massey Ferguson and another that sold International Harvester (Or IH as was then) Because of that nearly every tractor was a red MF or IH with the odd Ford or Leyland kicking around. Fast forward to today and the two dealerships are no more, one is a private house the other a car dealership. Farmers now have to go further afield to buy their equipment. Locally I have seen Claas, Zetor, Same, Fendt, New Holland, McCormack and Kubota, as well as many survivors of old still putting in service. One of the aforementioned dealers also sold the Trantor, never seen one in action but I have seen one in Preservation.
Dorian Nov 20, 2017 @ 2:59pm
I usually see New Holland and John Deere, also Case IH. Occasionally I see Claas. I'm from Northern Kentucky.

I'm from Southern Virginia (Pittsylvania County) and I mainly see John Deere in my are. There's very few Masseys around. Green fever runs crazy around here lol. But the combines are kinda old and most of the tractors are too. My neighbor has a 7R or 8R, but he only has one. Guess if it's not broke, don't replace them

They're part of SDF (used to be Same-Deutz-Fahr), but is SDF a part of Fiat? Haven't heard of that, yet.

Either way, another large agricultural corporation/group.

All under Fiat currently. My father works for Case, builds mobile sprayers. They use the Cursor engine from Iveco in the sprayers. He also can get a discount on a new vehicle from Chrysler, as Fiat owns them as well.

Iveco is with Fiat, true, but not even their own website mentions Same, Deutz etc. being part of the corporation. O.o

Kubota, Mahindra, and John Deere are the big ones in the south US. There is a lot of Case and New Holland Construction dealerships, but very few farming dealers around as far as I've seen. I have seen a Steyr dealer in my town though (a very small one)
