Forage Harvesting

So you used to be able to pick up straw and turn it to chaff with a forage harvester. now i cant pick it up.

do you have the right type of header? are you making sure you have a trailer atached to the harvester or that a trailer is driving next to the harvester?

because im pretty sure it still works. but the forage harvesters dont have a grain tank, so you need to offload it right away. also can your trailer haul chaff?

Im useing the rostselmash RSM1403 with the For Up370 header..... pulling the HKD302 Tipper. and it will not puck up straw. i have no mods installed either.

yeah that certainly is the right header, and the trailer supports it too. its seems the pickup of the harvester can only pick up cut grass and dry grass. im sorry but then i dont know either. i tend to use the mower with forage harvesters and turn that directly into chaff. so i havent tried myself in FS17. what i dont understand now is that almost all tippers show they can carry hay and straw. but with what do you will them :/

To pick up straw you do not use a harvester, you need a forage wagon.

yeah we know that XD. but to turn straw into silage (chaff). which used to be possible in FS15. how do you do that?

Lol. yes sorry if you miss understood. Im trying to turn hay into silage. however im so far unsuccessful.

Do you mean that the forage wagons won't pick up the hay or grass?

just use a loading wagon, dump it into a silage bunker and hey presto. magical chaff

no, normally you take a forage harvester. to turn for instance corn into chaff(also called silage) in FS15 you used to be able to pick up straw and hay, with the forest harvester. and turn it into chaff. but you can not do that anymore. aprearantly. and so yeah you can pick up hay, and grass and straw with the forage wagon. but, you cant turn it into chaff. which sucks.

Ok, I did misunderstand your post. It seemed that you were trying to pick up hay/straw laying on the ground in your original post.

When in reality you are trying to harvest a crop and collect the chaff and that is not working?

hay is grass, straw is what is left behind in your fields when you harvest wheat and some of the other crops.
as far as I know, you can't dump straw into a silage pit, even in FS15. I don't know if the harvester changed it from straw into chaff, I had never tried that.

ive recently dumped straw from a loading wagon into a silage pit and had it turn magically into chaff. Just do that if it wont let you oick it up with a harvester

i play the game as the title suggest as a simulator. and so magically turning straw into chaff. is not an option for me.

you mis understand again. in reality i am not trying to harvcest a crop and collect the chaff. i alreay harvested the wheat. the combine harvester leaves straw behind. i want to pick that up with the forage harvester with a "pickup" atached (new holland FR850 and 300FP) you used to be able to pick up straw from the ground and turn it into chaff.
