IRL, do farmers always change their tractor tires for different tasks, or have multiple tractors?
Saved enough $$ and about to replace my old tractors, since I have crop destruction mod on, I suddenly curious how often do real life farmers change their tires(wider/narrow) for their jobs if at all? it would be time wasting having to constanly change their tires, but then it seems unreasonable to own multiple tractors for certain specific tasks?

No...

Narrow tires, (Street Tires) are rare there good for distance hauling on a packed surface... This is not something you normally do with a tractor...

As for Normal vrs Wide thats more of an option when you buy the tractor as the wider the more weight displacement / traction but you also lose Horse power and fuel effeciency.... but no you don't change your tires out for different jobs....

But, how do they deal with crop destruction if narrow tires are rarely used?

Crop destruction??? So narrow tires sink in soft ground and in real life would likely cause a bigger issue in your field....

How you avoid crop destruction is dont drive in the crops!

Same reason winter tires on rally cars are narrow profile, greater force on a smaller contact patch to punch through the snow and dig in.

Interesting.. Because I've been told that thin/narrow tires are almost a must when doing field works.

Well I don't want to get into some he said she said type thing but farming is also very different based on geography... in Wisconsin where I grew up we have a tundra effect where the top soil thaws and the water can't penetrate the hard pen below it and drain quickly causing the ground to be very soft for a decent period of time, depending on the thaw.... I can't imagine anyone purposely using thin tires in my neck of the woods...

Also we grow certain crops, because we have a certain climate... So its possible that somewhere in the world a thin tire is adventageous to whatever crop and ground condition they maybe use too and so from there mind set they may very well see a narrow tire as very important.

But from my background I would be tempted to get the wider tire for that weight displacement...

Generally narrow tires are only seen on fertilization euipment, and especially on specialized vehicles such as sprayers. Vehicles with narrow tires will either drive between rows of row crops such as corn or will simply have to drive over crops such as wheat. A lot of times if you look in an unharvested wheat field you can see lines where the sprayers have been. The other thing you might see (though not in-game) are terra tires, which are extremely large and wide tires usually with measurements of 66x43x25. They are called flotation tires because they are supposed to "float" over crops without damaging them. However, they are again usually only seen on specialty vehicles rather than tractors. I don't know how it is in Europe, but in the U.S. farmers usually have different machines with dedicated tasks. So for example, on a large farm they would have a large articulated tractor (a Quadtrac or similar) that is used for tilliage, seeding, and pulling a grain cart during harvest, and a different tractor or machine for fertilizing.

My thought would be that the farmer would arrange the crops to accomidate the tires IRL.

in my part of the country (west texas) unless its wheat mostly everything gets planted in rows with 30-40inch spacing (depending on farmer)

in canada sask usally the same tire for all applications except for spraying as ur seeding wide tires as the crop comes up narrow tires thats the only thing i know that u change tires on here

In real life (observed from a distance, not actually a farmer), the rows are set up so that the tractors can run down the field doing little if any damage. The tractor tires are x-units wide and x*y units apart. Just don't plant seeds where those tires need to roll. Can't do that in game though.

It's different for every farmer (wher in the world, what crops they have) tbh, so any way you do it won't be 'wrong' per se. Although most farmers who deal with row crops are more likely to have a tractor or two with narrow wheels mounted permanently.

Dual wheels are easier to put on and off than narrow wheels, since you just mount them on the rim of the normal wheels. Whereas for narrow wheels you have to jack the tractor up, unbolt the wheels and put the others on.

And of course there's aerial spraying and no wheel touches the crop until harvest anyway so tyre size is based on best traction on loose soil, ie: wide. Very common in AU.

As mentioned. Thin tires are for driving with the wheels between rows of crops so you don't crush them (usually for spraying), wide/double tires are for preventing soil compaction and maintaining grip on softened terrain without tearing up a field like it was beach sand. That's also why you see huge wheels or even tank treads on the heavier and more powerful tractors, since they widely distribute both weight and grip.

The idea is to not put a multi-ton vehicle on a plant, and keep the ground they occupy nice and soft for them.

So a thin tire - sprayer tractor. wide tire for a sower (or sower/fertilizer combo), and normal/stock is fine for everything else. Not that it has any actual impact ingame, but that's the gist I've gotten.

Just because I also live in Wisconsin, I can back this up. Around here the only time you see a tractor with tires wide enough to wreck crops in the field is when they are plowing and cultivating (prepping the field for planting) and when they are planting. The only time you ever really see anything vehicle related in the fields while crops are present and growing is maybe one of those sprayers like the New Holland SP 400 F in this game.
