What logging equipment do you use?
Best early combination I found so far is a log fork + front loader tractor attachment, hooked to a flatbed trailer (found under bailing equipment).

Fell and limb with a chainsaw, cut in half or thirds if the tree is big, load and strap on the flatbed, then use the tractor to pull the flatbed to the sawmill.

There's a dedicated log transporter trailer, but it seems harder to use than the general-purpose flatbed.

I have not been logging officially, simply cutting down trees around my area that I consider a nuisance. I have only had the game 2 days. Initially I was cutting into small logs and hauling in the Lizard pick up. Now, I purchased a larger Tipper and it serves dual purpose, transporting my logs and crops attached to a tractor.

Which tipper do you use? I initially tried with the starting one, but the superstructure really gets in the way of any decent-size logs. And the bigger the logs, the more money you get. Also, getting them out of the tipper was pretty difficult.

The flatbed is very long, and you can overhang it in the back by quite a lot with larger logs, so the limiting factor becomes the tractor tipping forward when lifting large logs.

I am in a different game atm, I would need to check later. But when looking at Store page for tippers, I think it was the 3rd one from left. Was at least twice the capacity of the starter one. I saw the logs smallish so I can manually pick them up. Cannot afford any equipment for the time being. Buying the larger Tipper and a "weeder" used all my cash.

As far as getting them out of tipper, I side tip, most fall/roll out. The ones which do not I jump in there and move them manually.

Even with small logs I make about 5k - 6k per load, this is keeping me solvent until I sell crops.

I was confused by there being "stock" semi trucks, but no trailers that I can find.

I ought to try it out once I have money, since the profit sounds pretty good. I was only making 1-1.5k with the small-cut logs and a starting tipper. A flatbed with 2-3 trees worth of logs(6 logs or so) on it sells for 5-6k too. I wonder if Seasons mod maybe changed wood prices, or if a tipper really is better, despite having to cut pieces smaller..

It is a Farmtech TDK 1600 tipper. I was filling it up, then pulling it to Stanton Sawmill. Selling at the land drop point. Tipper has a 15K capacity, I fill it as full as I can get it with small logs.

My prices may have been higher as I have not sold very many logs. The more you sell the lower the price drops I have read.

EDIT: I just noticed there is no price listed for logs at Stanton Sawmill, only woodchips.

you wont find prices on logs, this is cause the price of the log varies depending on size and straightness

I decided to show the tipper and the sell, to see how much income it generated;

Here's what mine looks like:

This was 2 large trees, cut into 5 chunks. Brought in 6.8K.

They are a pain in the neck to load with the log fork, though, but I'm not sure if it'd be much faster to cut them all up into small enough pieces and load by hand into a tipper. This took me about 15-20 minutes in total.

Selling is easy, though. Just undo the straps and push them off by driving a tractor from the side.

6.8K is good money, at least for me with my small bank account.

I cannot afford a fork attachement yet nor any trailer. Although I cannot seem to find any trailers at all. It seems odd to me they include Semi Trucks without the trailer part. Maybe they are in an obscure category I have not checked?

Yes, the flatbed is hidden under "baling", I think. It's meant for hay, but I strap logs onto it and it works just fine. I leased mine for about 1000. If I decide to keep it, I'll buy one for 17k. The fork is pretty cheap: 800 plus 8000 for the arm, and whatever it costs to get the tractor upgraded with an arm attachment port. In total, probably about 20k.

The main downside, I think is that learning to operate the fork takes a lot of getting used to. I still feel awkward, and constantly pick up the logs too far from their center of gravity, which makes one end stay on the ground.

All right. I am doing missions for another farmer to get loyalty with him. I eventually want to purchase one of his farms. Last one I did netted me 50K. That was how I was surving prior to selling pieces of trees.

I am going to get a stump grinder and some other forestry equipment when I can afford it. I saw a video of a fella planting and growing trees. Took them 24 in game days till they were fully mature, If memory is correct. I will not be giving up crops any time soon.

I just discovered this Logging Winch. As a new farmer with limited funds it has been a great addition to my equipment. I can now cut several trees at once without having to move the tipper I typed about above. I can winch them all to the tipper, saves me time.
