Oilseed radish
Is there any actual benefit to planting oilseed radish when using a seeder that applies fertilizer during planting? I thought you had apply multiple layers of fertilizer at different stages. Sounds like using radishes then a, um, ferti-planter loses the benefit of one.

The oilseed does not count as fertilizer until it is cultivated in at the next stage. So your seeder does one level of fert and then the culivatited OSR does another. As the cultivation counts as status change. Your next seeder run then counts as the final fert stage.

When using a seeder with fertilizing it's:
1st stage: seeding oilseed
2nd stage: cultivating oilseed
3rd stage: seeding what you like
2nd and 3rd stage can even be at once if you use directseed
What I was told is to plant the OSR, wait or it to fully grow, cultivate over it, then plant what you want. I assume that is incorrect?

the oilseed only has one grow stage

It only has to sprout, then cultivate the sprouts back into the soil and you have your first stage of fertilizer..

So pretty much is just wastes a growth stage instead of spending money on fert for the first stage.

So if you use a ferti-seeder (I like that term) and OSR, you never need to spray or use a broadcast spreader to get max yield?

You still need to fert 3 times unless you have that disabled. Radish and the fert while sowing is 2 times. You could use a weeder as the third time.
hi farmers i oilseed fields round my farm with it. there is crop growing heads showing and my fields are dark blue so up to now no need for any other fert....
The radish becomes a layer of fertilizer but in no way counts as a crop. and save time and fertilizer behind the harvester
it's all in here

No you don't need a weeder as 3rd time. Seeding a crop is the third time unless you plan to seed something where there is no fertiseeder available.
The weeder only makes sense if you don't use oilseeds at all. (weed before plow/culti +1, after seeding +2 and again after 1st grow stage +3)
I've started using this pretty exclusively now. With lots of fields it allows you an extra growth stage to break things up while you focus on your animals or forestry. Also as things get bigger and you use helpers more their inability to drive the larger sprayers soon starts to grate.

Radishes cultivated under is one stage, then fert while seeding would be the second. How is fertilizing while seeding the third time? I'm a little confused here.

Weeding before plowing makes absolutely no sense. You will be weeding something that isn't there since plowing makes a field fresh with no weeds. You only weed after things are growing and weeds start invading the field.
3 stages, 1) fertilize with the sower when planning the radish, 2) plow/cultivate in the radish, 3) fertilize while sowing the real crop. To be honest I think (1) should be nerfed but....

Okay, that makes sense. I wasn't thinking about fertilzing the radishes and that that level of fertilization also stayed in the game. I would have thought the radishes used up the fert while growing.

Thanks for the explanation. And I totally agree with you. You should not be able to get all your fertilization done in one step if you have the 3 stage fertilization enabled.
To get the full benefit of the 3 fertilizer stages you have to do ONE PER GROWTH STAGE.
Therefore, cultivate in the OSR and the plant with a 'ferti-seeder' only counts as ONE stage.

So the rotation is this:
1: Plant OSR
2: Culivate it in
3: Seed
4: Wait till it is on the first growth stage
5: Fertilize (this stage can be down with a weeder, and only this stage. Using a weeder will count as fertilizing)
6: Wait untill it is one the next growth stage
7: Fertilize
8: Wait untill it is on the last growth stage
9: Harvest
