Seasons - do crops die in cold temperature?
Anyone play with the "Seasons" mod? I've been reading the manual, and it says:

Crops need a certain soil temperature in order for the seeds to germinate.

Which to me means that I can still plant them in Early Spring when it's still too cold, but they won't germinate (they won't begin to grow) until the temperature get's warmer.

But then I watched this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXf8N9VecF4) youtube video discussing the mod, and there they say that if you plant the crop why the temperature is still too cold, then it will just outright die.

Which is correct?

Your crops die in winter

You need to consult the Seasons menu (Left Alt+S) to see when you can seed which crop. If I remember correctly, you can plant everything in early spring, except soya and corn.
After it's planted, crop needs correct temperature to start growing.

In short, you're right.

Awesome, thanks for confirming!

Thanks for that clarification. I am currently playing and it is late spring the the ground is still too cold. Was afraid that I would have a year without any crops. At which case I would have disabled the seasons mod and have never gone back to it.

Crops will not die from cold if they are planted during the correct planting window shown with alt S ( the green section) Plant Sunflows in early spring and to cold they will die for example.

The above is correct. You can plant within the window (so long as the ground is not frozen) but they will not grow until the temperature hits the minimum. I'm not too sure what happens if you plant waay too early and it cycles through many transitions.

like in real, you can plant wheat, barley and canola (and maybe others, consult the manual) in autumn, they will germinate already in autumn, then rest through the winter and grow in spring.
ever seen a canola field in winter? it looks like some weird cabbage.

How many days per season are you playing - 3, 6, 9 etc. - the fewer days you have the harder it will be - this is because if you have it set to 3 days, you might actually have bad weather for those 3 days - e.g. rain, so you can't harvest, where with 9 days, you might get a good day to harvest the crop - I guess the same for ground temperature too.

Also any GEO mod you might have will affect it - e.g. the Wales GEO mod I guess there will be a lot of rain (known for it in Wales), The Seasons Mod weather pattern is set in the south of England so don't expect sunshine 24/7.
