Helper Headache
I've recently returned to this game after several months away. Seems to me that the helpers have become less intelligent than they previously were.

I harvested wheat from one of my fields, then hired a helper to cultivate that field. When I returned to that field a while later, she had finished the job, but had also started to cultivate my neighbouring field which has barley growing in it! Fortunately I spotted what was happening and was able to stop her before she did too much damage.

My question is, with updates still being released for FS17, how is it that the helpers still cannot tell where one field ends and the next one starts? Are there any mods which improve helper behaviour?

Does anyone know if helpers have been improved in FS19? I want to get it but i'm trying to hold off until it's on sale due to mixed reviews.

Given that the helpers suck in FS19, I don't think we will be seeing any improvement here. Your best bet is to install and learn to use 'courseplay'. It is not perfect but is a huge improvement over the standard AI. "Farmer Klein' on youtube has some excellent tutorials.

I had a feeling that would be the response lol. Thanks for the info!

Courseplay is really easy to use for the basic fieldwork. Concentrate on that and it won't seem so daunting.

Awesome. It's been a long time since I used any mods for FS17, so there's probably loads I should be trying.

it often happens with big implements and if there is not that much space between two fields. like the others said, there are several mods that can help with this

Also to help keep hired workers in the field. Do a headland around the whole field. That helps to keep them in the field. I t hnk it also helps them find the edge easier.

I've done that in the past if i've had two helpers working in neighbouring fields, so they wouldn't run into one another. Just annoying that you hire helpers to get jobs done, but you need to keep an eye on them anyway. And I wish it was possible to hire helpers for baling jobs!

you can use follow me on the tractor with baler behind a combine or windrower. that is kind of like hiring a worker for baling

Is that part of courseplay or a separate mod?

Follow Me is a separate mod.

Thank you

Courseplay is very easy to set up for baling. Just set up your mowing or swathing routine, save it, and then load it for your baler. Works like a charm.

I really need to give courseplay a go. The only mods I've used are vehicle mods and silo info systems. I just watched a couple of courseplay videos and it seems i've been missing out!
