Can't empty trailers into clamp silo.
I just bought this game recently and have spent most of my time trying different maps looking for one I like with not much luck. After looking into the Giants Editor and the process of creating a new map I figured it would best to just put some hours in a single game to make sure it would be worth it to me in the long run to invest time in a new map build. So I just went with the Goldcrest Valley map and no mods. After first I was just doing missions and buying various equipment to try out but then decided I would try the animals knock out the breed X animals achievements in the process. I've started with sheep, then pigs, and just now have started preparing for cattle. Long story short, I now have two different trailers full of chaff that I can't unload in the clamp silo. I can unload them anywhere outside the silo but not inside. It will start the dump animation then stop. The in-game help is as worthless as tits on a boar hog so I don't if I'm supposed to buy a different piece of equipment to load chaff into the silo or what (real life farming practices as I've experienced them and FS17 farming practices are two different animals). Everything else I've figured out by trial and error pretty easily up this point but I don't really want to screw around forever trying to figure out how to dump chaff into a silo so I figured I come here and ask. I tried the search function but I'd probably get better results thumbing through the phone book (do they still make those?).

I haven't gotten a phone book in years.

Left Ctrl + I yes. It will open the gate and start the dump animation but the the gate closes, nothing is on the ground, and the trailer is still full. Can dump the trailer/s anywhere outside of a clamp silo but not in. Found a couple of really old threads with a Google search. One person had the problem and was only able to get chaff in by dumping it outside and taking it in one bucket load at a time with a loader. Not really thrilled about the prospect of having to resort to that. Another had a suggestion to buy a roller and compact the empty silo with it but the only roller I'm seeing at the store is one that says it's for deleting fields. Haven't tried with that roller yet as I was hoping a solution might come about in this thread. I did try driving my tractor back and forth through the empty silo to see if it changed the "compacting 0%" value but that didn't do anything.

I never tried with a normal trailer. I always empty the loading wagon with ctrl+I. into every silo on goldcrest, always worked fine.

Trailer = loading wagon. :D

Maybe you have straw in the loader wagon rather than chaff? What equipment did you use to make the chaff?

Perhaps that's it. I don't remember exactly which header it was but I thought it was the correct one. It's hard to tell with some things because the help menu is not all that helpful and many of the equipment descriptions at the store are lacking. That and the required methods in-game are different than farming methods I've used or been witness to. I've put up thousands of bales of hay and here normal practice is to cut with a disc mower, let dry, rake with a wheel rake, and bale. Super efficient and cost effective and results in high quality hay with just the right moisture content. But in-game I apparently have to cut with something that appears to work more like a cutter/swather, tedder, rake with a rotary rake, and bale. Very time and resource consuming and, when I've seen done in real life around here, results in bone dry, low nutrient hay. I understand in wetter environments turning the hay during drying is needed but it's just not a necessary or helpful anywhere near me. Anyways, I digress, I'll try it with a different header and see what happens.

If you are too close to the stuff on the ground it will stop unloading automatically.

You lost me. I agree there are different farming practices and GIANTS may have got things wrong or over simplified operations. On the other hand, I can find many examples on youtube of real-life operations that are simulated in the spoiler hidden text below.

Growing corn, and then making corn silage with the Forage Harvester and tractor + trailer still makes the most chaff as far as I know. For single-player, if you want a semi-realistic setup, you'll have to hire a worker for the Forage harvester and then follow beside with a trailer. Or use the Follow Me mod to drive the tractor and then you can drive the Forage Harvester

There isn't anything on the ground as the silo is empty.

I lose a lot of people. :D

I don't know that they got things wrong so much as they haven't seemed to allow for the use of different methods. I kind of expected more from a franchise that's been around as long as this one. But it really seems to be primarily a farm implement operating simulator with just enough farming to give something to do. And judging by the sheer amount of mods for tractors and such compared to the one mod I saw for the chickens I'd say that's pretty much all everyone else is interested in. At this point I'm just trying to get a good feel as to whether there's enough there to make learning the Giants Editor worthwhile or if it's just something to put alongside American Truck Simulator to just hop in a drive from time to time.

Speaking of ATS, how cool would it be if SCS and Giants got together and combined FS, ATS, and ETS2? Think of all the that could be done there. It would be especially cool for the MP people. FS farmers having more places to farm and sell crops and could hire ATS or ETS2 drivers to haul the crops or deliver new tractors. ATS and FS players could start a harvesting company and go on a cross-country wheat harvest. Probably not possible on most if any computers but would be cool nonetheless.
