Feeding the chipper
We've probably all experienced the frustrations of trying to feed logs into the chipper. I'm definitely not an expert, but not a newbie either. So I would say I probably get a 50% success rate on "First attempt"... That got me to try and experiment with different way to do it, and well, there's not too many way to feed logs really.. make them long/heavy enough, you need equipment, make them small enough, you can throw them in by hand.

I am finding that on average, 3m is a good length to do it by hand. But then, I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice if we could use a conveyor belt to feed them up into the chipper? Well, either I'm doing it wrong, or none of the current belt will allow logs on them.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do that? Or any mod they're aware of that could take 1m logs and conveyor them into a chipper?

thanks!

Use a PONSEE Scorpion and cut it direct to chipper :D

The biggest problem I have with the PONSEE is that I can't figure out how to align the tree with the chipper before cutting it... I'm thinking it might be because I'm cutting too close to the chipper and I don't have much room to turn things around... Time to check out some videos I guess :)

If there was a grab that was inline with the feeding line of the chipper you could dump logs at the end then lift them up and drag it in on one axis (in/out). Currently you need to use 2 axis (in/out and left/right) as the grab is always offset.

I normally use either a frontloader or a wheelloader to place a whole tree in, then go to the end with a skidsteer lift the other end up and walk it in. Once you get the hang of it it's fairly quick.

You and me both brother! :)

I mean I can feed the chipper by hand or by using the scorpion, but there's so many "misses" that it just gets frustrating more than anything else.. Then I spend a ton of time picking up the pieces that didn't quite make it...

Alternatively, if there was a chipper that feeds from the top instead of a conveyor belt, into which you can drop the wood, that would probably work even better.

If you want it fast download the brucks un from modhoster....it´s still a bit buggy but eats the complete tree at once. Giants is aware of the "problems" and promise improvements for the next update, but from my experience with promises on ls15 updates we should not expect too much. At last the wood handling is a bit better compared to ls 15 and finally we can take the small parts with the hands. Best success for me was using the stationary wood chipper and then moving the trees downside first parallel to it with a wheel loader.

Oh, there's a stationary chipper? You mean the one in "Placeable" ?

There is a chipper like that, look up 'the Beast' for FS17 The Beast chipper[www.farming2015mods.com]

Do you still have trouble if you use a machine to support the log instead of dropping it?

I find the best way is to use the skid steer log forks in a 45 degree angle, like the letter V; each side of the fork is now an inclined wall, keeping the log centered and supported as the machine pulls it in. All you do is keep it supported as if you were an extension of the chipper log tray.

Might not work as well with the smaller tractor log fork but it's worth a try.
