Are cows worth it?
Just curious if cows are worth gettting into? Like sheep pay off big but not very often and pigs are a little high tech for me. So again are cows really worth the extra effort

I worked out it will cost around 230K to get the only the essentials. And that doesnt include cows

Not in real life anyway.

if you can get around 150 cows and play on hard mode, this brings in about 40k per night, covers machine costs nicely.
MisterYoda Dec 18, 2016 @ 3:01am
yes thats true glob... i do it that way

You figured VERY wrong then.

It is worthwhile getting cows before you can feed them TMR.

All you really need to be ready for cows in FS17 is a mowing deck and a forage wagon. With that you can keep them at 75% productivity...they will still produce a good amount of milk.

Once you get rolling like that you can get a mixing wagon and get them up to 100%.

FYI: Pigs take less overall care than cows, and can be MUCH more profitable.
Pigs DO NOT need root crops to be productive....in fact I would almost consider it a waste.

It is ALOT cheaper to lease a livestock trailer than to pay for livestock to be delivered.

If you want alot of livestock the best thing to do is just purchase a trailer load or 2 and let em breed from there.

We have only purchased:
42 sheep
42 cows
24 pigs

We currently have:
200+ sheep
190 cows
160 pigs

Right now our cows alone cover our daily operating costs (including vehicle cost, building upkeep, and animal upkeep) and gives about $15k past that.
We have yet to start selling pigs.....trying to let a massive stockpile a poo build up before we do.
Pig poo is mainly what keeps the fertalizer production up and running.

How do i sell pig milk?
jk

Sheep is probebly the best way to build up your farm. Store the wool until the price is higher that 6000. Easy cash, while working with something else.

All livestock ingame are 100% manageable with zero mods at least upto 200-300 animals per type.

I'm playing on hard mode and concentrate a lot of my attention on building a Cow system for making easy money...I will not cheat using the money mod and thus have a lot of the small base equipment because I spent the earned money on forage wagon and mower plus a round baler...Down by the Cow farm I have both sides of the shed filled up with bales of grass and hay (about 40+ each side) to use with the mixer...While I spent the time baling and filling the shed half full I filled up the silage bunker next to the Cows until it was a large amount...I bought a storage shed for grass, hay and straw and put it in farm area to store food to feed them outside of mixed food...Once I had those things ready I then earned around $450,000 to $500,000 can't remember exactly and then bought 180 Cows which give me $50,000 milk per day (not sure what the manaure and slurry is worth because haven't got that far) I also bought 201 sheep which produce quite a bit of wool, I have yet to turn the trailer full of wool in yet so can't give you an ammount on that profit...Now that I have money coming in from Animals (no pigs yet) I can start building my farm up by buying bigger equipment and more fields...

No need for bales unless you like it.

To start cows not necessarily in this order
sell two tractors, buy front fork, universal shovel, front mower, small loading wagon and water trailer.
Max out loan at bank and/or do a coupla big field missions.
Buy as many cows as you can.
In a coupla days buy two greenhouses.
You will soon be sittin ona beach ona resort island sippin miaties and dodgin bombs.

Gibbles Dec 18, 2016 @ 11:51am
I started the game making bales before I found out you could get around them so I have them but as I stated I started storing the food in shed to make it easier to access via pipe/trailer/mixer...I haven't bought any greenhouses so I might look into that...

This is very true for a single player game , higher numbers would require a multiplayer team to keep on top of there daily demands
