Yup. Different companies making the games. I get the same feeling.
I play ATS, ETS2 and FS17. Would definately be cool if the vehicles handled like ETS2.
Would be doable if both games were made by the same developer. Don't know of any cross gaming between different developers out there.
Totally different experiences, to me. FS is always in a hurry. I have lots to do and figure out all the time: making sure the AI workers get what they need all the time, making sure the prices are good, there's enough storage space if they are not, keeping track of the many activities and businesses, what I did when, what needs doing, and if there's a spare moment, running the numbers on whether some new equipment would be worth it, which order to buy it in, how to fit new activities into my day, etc.
ETS is the opposite. Plug in a trailer, turn on a euro radio station, and follow the road watching the pretty graphic effects, relaxing and thinking about nothing at all. For hours. So tranquil, it couldn't feel more different from FS.
you can plug on a plow, get on a field, turn the radio on and draw your rows ... also 'tranquil'
for me, ETS2 is less relaxing because it's less casual, I got to get the wheel out of the box and fix it to the table. FS goes with keyboard.
True, but I can say the same.
It's just the way you play it... nobody forces you to get a wheel out of the box and fix it to the table. ;) Personally, I'm perfectly happy with a keyboard in ETS2.
And plowing is a poor example, IMO. Turning at the end of a field is a pain, and it breaks the rythm. You don't get the same lull effect as you do from driving on a highway at night in ETS, where reflexes take over and your mind is somewhere far away. Harvesting would be a bit closer, except you have to watch your grain tank, which fills up very quickly and then switch tasks/vehicles every once in a while. Fertilizer spreading is even closer. But still, it's not the only thing you are doing in FS, unless you just do missions.
It's all in how you play FS, like you said. It's a game with more coverage overall, which means it's not as detailed. If you just want to relax with a single activity, boot up ETS. It's better polished, more beautiful, etc. If you want the depth of simulation of running a business in addition to driving heavy machines then go with FS. And if you can only afford one, get FS, since it has everything, just not as nice.
Also, you start with no fields .. not even a farmhouse. There are placeables for building the house, fences and hedges, etc. and for fields, you just have a ton of land and can plow them out however you want. It's not finished but here are some screenshots to get the idea.

I've also started a video series on youtube .. just a way to test the map while playing it out as normal. I'll be tweaking it and completing the city as I go.
