Keyboard or Gamepad?
So... I'm driving the struggle bus here... really same issue I had on FS15... controls.

Driving is fine. Most field work is fine. However anything using the crane or really any mouse-controlled buckets/arms/etc are killing me. Things like the front loader are mostly ok because they dont rotate but toss me in a scorpion and the struggle is real.

What do most folks use for that sort of thing? Xbox controllers? Remap the default keys? Is there a way to make the F1 helper menu show you the boom keys instead of the boom mouse commands?

Appreciate it. Really wanting to get into forestry but loading logs on a trailor makes me want to take my own life.

Personally I use a XBOX Controller (Cheapest way to play) . If you get one it is already set up for it, all you need to do is enable it in the setting menu.

once enabled your menu will show the controls for the xbox .

took me about an hour to get used to. but well worth it

I play keyboard. remapped the keys to the right side of the keyboard to do the driving with arrows and cam on numpad.
just, I'm absolutely not the gamepad player, never got that used to it.

regarding the controls for a crane, yes that's really enervating.
okay, first axis is J/N, second is K/M, but to remember wich axis of the machine is the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, meaning shift or ctrl + J/N or K/M really beats the sh!t out of me every time.

i use a combo of mouse/keyboard gamepad and dual joysticks + a program called joytokey
joytokey is primarely configured for the dual joysticks with differnt machine profiles ,a digger needs another setup then as a scorpion buttontop or a loader

joytokey installers had the reputation of installing adware/malware.

When I was looking for a similar program for another game, actually I was looking for an alternative to XPadder, I found AntiMicro was recommended. https://github.com/AntiMicro/antimicro/releases

I use my Xbox one controller to play. Can't tell you how it does with the cranes and such, I don't do any logging. Just farming fields and animals.

I use a G920 for the basics and the mouse for the cranes. Upping the mouse sensitivity when using cranes might help with the issues you described. My mouse has buttons to increase/decrease dpi on the fly which helps immensely.

I use keyboard for driving and gamepad for some of the frontloader stuff. It feels weird but i'm just getting into forestry myself. A gamepad or controller or whatever you wanna call it works so much better. Mouse is just horrible for it

Appreciate the tips folks. I'll have to give gamepad a try it seems. I've used it prior just hadn't set it up since last machine reload. Not too bad tho, it's an XB1 w/ wireless dongle on Win10 so its plug and play... once I find the dongle. :)

Def wish you could specify mouse or keyboard on the F1 screen... cuz ya Kaeru, I'm same boat. I know the keys exist but I'll be damned if I can remember which does which on the different axis. :)

+1. Console controllers are an abomination. I cannot use them no matter how many times I have tried. Keyboard and mouse only for me with no issues.
